I'm not sure what that is but you're missing two player of the year candidates and quite possibly the best player in the region in D2. In my opinion Spencer and Coffey. Spencer has absolutely dominated NKy. And in my opinion, (yes she is my daughter) but Haley Coffey is the best overall player in the region. Like you said, the votes are in. I don't say a thing most of the time about my own kid, but she is a senior and on the way out the door and she deserves the recognition. May be the best shortstop in the state and is a huge reason NKy teams are averaging .42 runs per game and leads the birds in several categories. And speaking of .42 runs per game, that is Spencer on the mound when that happens. She is the best pitcher in NKy. Like I said in another post. People tend to only look at offensive stats. These two dominate NKy teams on defense. And the schedule HHS has played is nowhere near what anyone on that list has played. How many future D1 pitchers has any of those others faced this year? How many pitchers have they faced that will even pitch in college??? Just looking at stats is not the way to pick players in high school. HHS could have put together a schedule that made all their stats blow it out of the water. But they didn't. They chose to play one of the toughest schedules in the state and their kids deserve credit for it.

All those kids above are very good and I voted for several of them. But it's a travesty to even look at a list without Coffey and Spencer on it. You have two Birds on the list and I can tell you that even within our own ranks (players, coaches and fans), you'd get a different answer from (depending on who you asked) who is even the best player on their own team.

Nothing wrong with differing opinions. You even said those within your own ranks will disagree. Good luck to all and hope everyone has a great evening Saturday night.

I understand your frustration and I would be to because I think both Spencer and Coffey are deserving. I am curious because I don't know what is HHS record against the good teams they have played throughout the state and not NKY teams because we all know HHS has dominated all of them?

Agreed. But the difference within the ranks is about who is the best all around player on our team. Not others teams.

So you don't agree you should look at all around player (not just offensive stats) and the level of talent that stats were accomplished against???

With that logic, I would be saying that someone that hits .400 at Thomas Moore is better than someone that hits .300 at UK. I could go on and on how to justify the players and the order of where they stand. But I will stop here.

Every player listed so far is very good and deserving of the recognition.

But to leave Spencer and Coffey off any list at any level in NKy is a travesty. Heck, there's one kid on your list that has played maybe 10 innings of defense the entire year. Unbelievable hitter, love her to death and very deserving of everything she earns. But there are two sides of the ball and one that you left off dominates defense as much as that player dominates offense. Ask Team Kentucky.

I'm a coach and will fight for all my players. Just like I mentioned before. Haley is my daughter, but she's also one of my players and I will fight for her just like I would any of them. And to not think Bailey one of the best (if not the best) pitcher, please explain the "runs scored against" for the Birds. Those aren't negated by the hitting of the Birds. I'll put it to you this way. If you take Bailey or Haley out of the lineup, the Birds dynamics quickly become significantly different and they aren't the same team. It's not a secret in Bluebird land.

Record is not great against other teams. But if we cared about our record and having nice banquets, we wouldnt be playing those teams! We play those teams on purpose. To challenge us and push us to our limits! We have learned and improved so much as a team, even when we get spanked! You don't think We could have put a schedule together with this team that could go 36 and 0?? What good would that do?? We tell our team at the beginning of every year these same words. "We may be 500 by districts, but we'll be tested". We look at the regular season as 36 scrimmages. We could care less what our record is and if you don't believe it, ask one of our kids. Not one time did our record come up amongst our kids when we had a losing record at the beginning of the season. They know what the goals are and what the big picture looks like. We want to win them all, but every kid on that team knows what we do and why we do it.

I agree that these two young ladies from Highlands should be on the list, and Jenna Hicks of Conner has to be considered, maybe it is just against us, but the young lady must be hitting 600, she can flat out run. But any list is subjective and we all have our opinions. We have some ladies at Cooper that probably don't get the exposure we would like as well. Every one listed is well deserving and especially will miss seeing many of the seniors, and wish them the best.

#RCC9 , you run a great program and do things the right way. You have some great players on the team too.

But the POY for Div II... for this year should be Gabby Stewart. Her offensive numbers are undeniable, and would be even better in a reasonable field. She also hit pretty well against your dominant pitcher, likely hitting one out if on a reasonable field, probably getting a double on SH's field (if you wouldn't have had your outfielders playing so far back ). She's only struck out twice this entire season. And she's been intentionally walked many times, since SH doesn't have the luxury mentioned in the Highlands article of surrounding her with other great hitters.

And defensively, she's on every play, and working hard this year. She's got the best arm on any catcher in the area. She's also played all over the field in her career, playing 3rd, SS, 2nd and pitch just this Year. No doubt she's the best defensive catcher in the area.

If you want to talk about deserving for a career, she's got that as well. Hitting over .500 for a career, winning the defensive player of the year on her team as an 8th grader on a team with 8 future college players, at 3rd base, her secondary position.

I knew it......My daughter hit one last year in a Freshman game that landed in a Similar spot at St Henry. Maybe even a few feet further. I always told her that it might of been a HR somewhere reasonable.:D

Also Coach Coffey had his girls back so far to keep them from falling in....#swamp Possibly some regrading could remedy your Field's woes with Drainage! It reminds me of the old Green Mountain outfields in Verona....

Gabby Stewart is a fine player and will do some great things at the next level. Well deserving of her achievements for sure!

I'm confused...

The first list is the nominees.

The second list is cru's opinion. The votes are already in and the actual winners won't be announced until saturday.
