Love Gabby to death and would have absolutely no issue with it if she were the POY. She's outstanding on and off the field. There are about 5 kids in NKY that know what real competitive softball is about and she is one of them. I'm saying all around player, there is more than just her in that discussion. IMO, Amanda Lloyd, Haley Coffey, Shelby Graybill, Brennah Dutcher, Bailey Spencer, Hailey Meyers and Kennedy Baugh are the POY candidates at any level in NKY.

 

And again, you have to take competition level into play. I'm not saying that she can't compete against the best, because I have seen her do it. I'm saying in high school, the stats on any player are reflective of who they play. That's why colleges don't recruit high school games. Gabby can only play the teams she is scheduled to play. My argument for any of them is would they have those stats if they would have played our schedule? Not trying to take anything away from any of them. I think just about every kid on that list knows I respect them and their talent. I have told quite a few. But I don't think anyone can argue that if they played the schedule our kids have played, their numbers would not be the same.

 

I can post our numbers against NKY teams, removing all the down state and top 25 teams we played.

Regardless what the results are on Saturday, I know who I would take to battle downstate if I could chose an all-star team from NKY to compete. One thing I do know is that it would be very hard to leave that little SS from Cooper at home.

One of the kids on Crus list is hitting about .530 with a SLG % in the .850 range And that's against the schedule the Birds the Birds play. May not be the player you're thinking of...And also has a fielding percentage of .993 with over 150 chances. Her lone error came against Butler I believe.

Just for giggles, I think I'm going to check the stats against only NKY teams and see if there is any difference.

And by the way, her double against ST. Henry would also have been out on most fields.

The sad thing is that you guys have evidently forget one thing! It's a popularity contest Not a best player award! First the vote is taken way before the seasons midway point! Second all the coaches don't take it serious (the weekly standing prove that) even if they wanted too they don't get to see all the players and then most would still vote to get certain kids notarity and/or they hold grudges against others!

 

It only takes one coach black balling a kid for whatever reason not giving her any points and the system doesn't work. A couple years ago there was a tie for player of year where it should of been a land slide and the co player of the year wasn't even best player on her team.

You are absolutely right @Playtowin29, that would have been out on most fields, it was a very good hit. But instead, it's just a double. Only 6 times this year did Gabby have a chance to make hits like that a homer, which would have made her over 1.100 SLG % even higher.

 

SH last year had a great schedule, playing teams in FL that were ranked in the state of FL and played quality teams from OH and IN, yet Gabby still had a SLG% over .800 and had half the games at SH. I have no doubt her hitting would have held up pretty well against better competition this year, but we'll never know.

When stats are somewhat close I give the benefit of the doubt to the players playing the top teams.

 

Birds have played teams that are currently ranked the following in KY:

 

4,5,8,8,9,10,17, and 24.

 

Add in Knoch,PA who is always good.
