I love that Belfry steps up and plays a much larger traditional WV powerhouse. Most people that are not from this area may see the 3A next to Midland's name and figure it's a similar size school as Belfry, yet it would be one of the larger 6A schools if it were in KY.

 

Question for the Belfry fans, is this the last year on contract for this series? If so, is there any indication that the contract will be renewed?

3a starts at 933 students for WV and goes to 1,965(cabell midland enrollment) students or at least thats the way it is this school year. Like Tony Cavalier said cmh is the largest school in the mountain state. WV goes by 1a-3a for all sports( Imo I wish Ky would do that and make classes). Belfry has 336 boys this year I'd be willing to bet cmh has double or more than what Belfry has in boys. The wvssac doesn't list male or female enrollment by its self on its site just classifications by number of total students only. No shame in that loss to Cabell Midland this past season. Hopefully Belfry can win the game this coming season. Would be a good game to keep on the schedule if BHS and CMHS can work it out.

Belfry/CM would develop quickly into a real good rivalry win or lose for the Pirates. I agree that CM could be important to Belfry's future schedules mainly because of the difficulty Belfry has in getting games and the uncertainty of Sheldon Clark being in the district in the future. The atmosphere up at CM was great last year even on a dreary night, and when Belfry had a slim chance to get back in the game, CM quickly doused any hope and was obviously the much better team that night. This year's game shapes up to be a good one based on what Belfry returns and some of the really good players CM lost, even though their cupboard is far from empty.

Belfry should, if they have not post the opening/date on the Ohio,Indiana and w.Va.

They have. Belfry has been searching far and wide to fill that spot. The opening just came way too late when nearly everybody has their schedules set. It is going to take an unusual circumstance now to find a game, a cancellation, etc.

Cabell Midland would be one of the top 7-8 schools in KY by enrollment and their male enrollment would likely be about 3 times that of Belfry. That is not an excuse, though, as Belfry routinely playes schools much larger than themselves with a bigger talent pool to choose from. Even though the outcome was never in doubt, and CM was clearly the better team, the Pirates were at least in the game last season trailing 21-7 just a minute before halftime and CM scored twice quickly thanks to a turnover and an onside kick. We look forward to the game this year and hope to have a better showing. I hope this series continues as it is a good matchup between two really good programs.

It has been reported in another thread, but since this thread was specifically about Belfry's schedule, I thought I'd share it here.

 

Belfry has filled their open date with a home game against Warrensville Heights, Ohio, October 14.

 

Their now complete schedule is as follows:

 

8/26 - Tates Creek - Pike County Bowl.

9/2 - Harlan County

9/9 - at Newport Central Catholic

9/16 - at Pikeville

9/23 - at Knoxville Catholic, TN

9/30 - Cabell Midland, WV

10/7 - at Lawrence County

10/14 - Warrensville Heights, OH

10/21 - Pike County Central

10/28 - at Johnson Central

I wish that Knoxville Catholic game was televised. Will be lots of talent on the field not to showcase it...

Good for them and their kids. What do you know about Warrensville Heights? I know from Wikipedia that it is just east of Cleveland and is the alma mater of Arsenio Hall and Sal Bando!

I don't know much yet.

 

They were 0-10 in 2013, 2-8 in 2014, and 3-7 last year with some of those losses being blowouts.

 

They were scheduled to play Johnson Central in 2014 but backed out a week or two before the game.

 

They are Division 5 in OH I think, and they would be a AA team in KY
