Belfry's Schedule for 2016

Featured Replies

The Pirates have their schedule intact for 2016.

It has been a long process and it ended up being a 9 game schedule. They are still holding out hope to fill that Week 8 opening, but it is a slim hope.

Even with one less game, this is a tough, quality schedule. Scrimmages will be @ Richlands, VA (which will be a 4 team grid) and Rockcastle County, reportedly at a neutral site somewhere in between the two schools.

8/26 - Tates Creek - Pike County Bowl.

9/2 - Harlan County

9/9 - at Newport Central Catholic

9/16 - at Pikeville

9/23 - at Knoxville Catholic, TN

9/30 - Cabell Midland, WV

10/7 - at Lawrence County

10/14 - OPEN

10/21 - Pike County Central

10/28 - at Johnson Central

I like that schedule.

Too bad they can't get a 10th game.

Only 3 team District?
Sheldon Clark dropped out.

OH, would LOVE to go to that Cabell game!

Last season Belfry went 4-1 against these 5 teams...

Won 28-10 - NCC was 2A State Runner-up

Won 34-8 - Pikeville was 1A State Champion

Won 38-14 - Knoxville Catholic was TN 4A State Champion

Lost 49-7 - Cabell Midland is a WV 3A power who trounced Belfry

Won 41-0 - Johnson Central was 4A State Runner-up

I might be in town for that Pike Central game

Extremely impressive!

I don't want to get the thread off course but remind me how did Cabell Midland finish?

It is a repeat of last year without the Sheldon Clark game and I agree, it is a nice schedule.

Shame the open week is right in the middle of district scheduling, that pretty much eliminates the possibility of a KY game.

On a side note, for 2017,2018 Belfry and Bryan Station have agreed upon a 2 year deal.

Scott County then came calling but it would have meant travelling to Scott Co and Bryan Station in back to back weeks, and Belfry needed a home game one of those weeks so it didn't pan out.

They were 12-1 and lost to Capital in the semifinals after beating them in the regular season. I think CM finished up ranked about 500-550 in the MaxPreps national rankings.

They graduate 29 seniors I think, but they have a huge roster. I'm sure they have 29 more ready to step in. LOL

Knoxville Catholic has one of the more talented teams Belfry played last year.

4 star WR Amari Rodgers is a Clemson commit and was once verballed to USC. He is a stud and fun to watch. They also have a lineman who is a Tennessee commit, but his name escapes me.

Belfry benefited in that game last year by their style of play I think. I doubt KnoxCath had seen anything like our offense before, and if you only face spread teams, you just can't really duplicate it and prepare for it in a week. I would guess they will be better prepared this time around.

I would think that game will be a battle on their turf this time around.

That's an awesome schedule, going to be a lot of fun for the fans.

They also graduated Reese Donahue 6-5 250 who is a fr. this year(2016 season) at WVU. Will be hard to replace him but like you said they have 1,965 students walking the halls so they should be able to find a decent replacement.

Nice schedule for Belfry but I think even if they played a bunch of nobody's they could still roll on to another 3a title. They were just too dominate last season and they return the core.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but CM is the largest school in WV. Their roster easily had over 100 on the sidelines at the JC scrimmage last season. Hate that Belfry couldn't get a 10th game. It robs the boys that have worked so hard, especially the seniors, of a chance to make additional memories. We had to deal with that early last season after Oscar Smith declined to travel the week of the game but the only bright spot is that it is late in the year, giving them a chance to heal.
