I honestly think this years team was as good as 2014. But I have a question do you think 2014 and the 2015 teams were as good as 2011?

 

Bac ... IMO 2014 is very clearly better than 2015. Better at the line of scrimmage and much better depth. Here is how I rank the Beechwood teams since their last title in 2008:

 

1. 2011 - Beat the 2A state champ 69-26 running clock - enough said. This team was a totally dominating machine. This team had one weakness - no backup QB. Leading Mayfield at Mayfield at halftime after losing the QB to injury and still were an incomplete pass at the goal line on the last play away from getting the win. Outscored a tough schedule 670-214.

 

2. 2014 - Closest team to 2011 in talent and depth. Signature win a 28-13 victory at Covington Catholic. Outscored a tough schedule 589-215.

 

3. 2015 - A step down from the two above. A very talented core but not as much depth and not as strong as the two above at the line of scrimmage. Schedule definitely weaker than the two above, outscoring opponents 680-247.

 

4. 2010 - Tough choice between 2010 and 2012. A little more talent and depth here so I will give this team a slight edge, mainly due to the double OT win over a 2A state champion New Cath team that Breds fans will tell you was one of their best teams ever. Points 585-261.

 

5. 2012 - A team that got better and better as the season went on. Overcame a lack of depth with some good coaching moves. Beat in clear cut fashion a Frankfort team that many thought BW would lose to, then gave Mayfield a tough game before finally falling to them. Points 503-302.

 

6. 2009 - Another team that had to try to maneuver players and make adjustments due to lack of depth, especially on the line. This team and 2013 are a tossup for me at this slot but I will give this team the slight edge since they made it to the state semifinals. Points 479-281.

 

7. 2013 - A team that had too many senior injuries to overcome and was just too young. Lost to Frankfort in the playoffs. Only BW team since 2008 to not get to the state semis. Points 461-219.

My reason why I think that. Mr Slusher was that player that could take over the game on both sides of the ball just like Mayfield had Mr Jon Jackson a few years ago...

They didn't beat NCC by that many, so they sure wouldn't of beat Beechwood by that much... If they did win I'd say between 7-16.

I will agree with Snake, last year would have likely been one of those years where MF would have been about a 3 td+ favorite unlike most years where MF may have won by that type margin but MF going in was not much if any of a favorite.

 

I know I have beat this point to death but as a guy who has had a team face and beat BW over the last half decade or so I think the biggest hindrance to the Red Tigers success was offensive play calling. With some new coaches this may change BW back to the days where 1A was property of the BW Tigers.

I normally don't go off scores but Beechwood beat New Cath pretty soundly this season by 17 points... I know Mayfield has did it before I just got to give this group a little more credit...
