Watching the 1st quarter of Tennessee game, UK execution is about 50% of UT's.

Cats have "some" athletes at skill positions, not nearly enough. No "O" line, No "D" line a QB with some potential that I hope has improved his discipline / attitude problem from last season. Overall depth is Zero. Overall weak on offense, defense execution was bad and although it wasn't stressed all that much today probably are weak on special teams as well.

Other than the above listed, things look good.

 

The field, Commonwealth Stadium looked great ... top notch stadium, facilities.

OL definitely needs Landon Young.

Barker had 156 yards passing 2 tds and 1 int against mostly 3s and 2s.

I was encouraged by some of Drew Barker's throws.

 

I found it funny on how many times Stephen Johnson ran the ball, but the quarterback was not live. Kind of a senseless.

He was live after the first series until he was touched. It looked like on the first drive as soon as he broke contain they would whistle it dead. He ended up with some nice runs.

Barker has been named the starting QB. Stoops said Johnson pushed Barker all spring but late in the spring Barker pulled away from home.

 

Denzil Ware said he is 100% behind Barker and that he will do great things.

When Barker was asked about his growth he said, "I'm 20 years old now. I was 17 when I got here."

Hmmm it kind of shows how someones bias for or against someone can effect an opinion. From reading this thread, I would have thought Barker played bad and Johnson looked like a possible Heisman candidate.

 

Then two hours later football people talked about how much better Barker looked than Johnson. Then Stoops immediately names Barker the starter and says Johnson had been pushing Barker but Johnson just didn't seem to play as well today as they had hoped. Judging by someone's post I would have thought Johnson would be starting and trying to win the Heisman.

Johnson played against the 1st string defense and Barker played against 3rd and 2nd big difference.

I think the word they used was growth. I'd imagine he has grown some since arriving on campus at 17 years old.

Johnson ran for 69 yards on 11 carries and was 4/11 35 yards working with the 2s and 3s. When played with the 1s he was 2/2 99 yards 1 td.

Gunner Hoak was 4/5 57 yards 1 td.

I believe he threw a 3 yard completion that was then taken 70 yards. At the end of the day a qb has to be able to pass the ball to be effective. I liked what I saw from Johnson but he won't be able to run like that against sec teams. Every qb looks good running against UKs defense.
