Should Football Be Banned? Is it Too Dangerous for Little Jimmy?

Featured Replies

Mothers around the country could shut the sport down by refusing to let their little Jimmy's and Johnny's participate in the barbaric sport. I know that at least one high school in Maine cancelled its football season this past year, citing safety concerns. More may begin doing the same. I know if I had a son he would not be allowed to play the sport. Just too dangerous.

Bruce Arians said that parents who won't let their children play football are fools. I think just the opposite. Foolish is allowing your son to end up like Junior Seau , Mike Webster, Ken Stabler, Dave Duerson, Chris Henry, Jovan Belcher, and I could go on and on.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy watching football- been a fan since the early 70's , first a Raider fan then Bengals. But let's be honest...it's barbaric and very, very dangerous . Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is real.

Now, will football be banned? Of course not. It's a cash cow ! Unless mothers unite and say "NO More !" , and halt the flow of fresh bodies to be sacrificed at the alter of Roger Goodell , nothing will change.

Hey, if there was no more football, we could always watch more tennis or golf.

Has anyone decided it's a "no-go" for your little Jimmy ?

Okay, beat me up, alpha dogs !!! :)

Does your son or would you let your son play?

My son is 9 and it is his fifth year playing his team won a super bowl last year. In 5 seasons I have seen 3 kids get concussions. Which was from kids leading with their head. Once they get used to tackling the right way the concussion risk goes down alot.

30 yrs down the road...

No I wear the pants and my wife realizes that life doesn't come with a warranty. Are you starting a new moms demand action revolution SF?

N O

And if you don't want your son to play, don't let him.

The wussification of America continues. What's next, kids being punished for making pretend guns with their fingers? Oh wait....

Somebody tell the Mom's it's time to cut the cord.

And yes I wold let my kids play football. Why only sons SF? Showing a little sexism there?

I have friends that let their daughters play football.

I think it should always be a parental choice. Supply and demand will determine whether an area has it.

We all know the mom who won't let their kid leave the house before 30 and who tells his hopeful/eventual wife, how to raise their child.

Of course the moms who won't let their kids play football will go out and buy them a 4 wheeler so they can get hurt on it or go get them a car so they can drive around and wrap it around a tree or hit another car. These poor kids are so misguided by their moms.

Please SF keep your kid off the field by all means, I think they sell a bubble at wall mart to keep your kid in to make them safe. By the way, buy them some earplugs so they don't hear any bad words.

Maybe you should get educated with Heads up football and the new way of tackling. Coaches are teaching kids to keep their head up and not lead with their head.

I read a story a while back that projected that within 10 years the concussion level in Soccer would exceed the rate in football due to better awareness and coaching methods in football. Heads Up Football for example and other initiatives were projected to reduce the concussion rate significantly in the upcoming years.

Baseball also.
