Syracuse 68 Virginia 62

Final what a last 10 minutes for the Orangemen 29-8 run. Syracuse was down 16 at one point in the 2nd half, and are now only the 4th double digit seed to advance to the Final 4. Also the first #10 seed to make it to the Final 4.

This ....

Wow. 4th double digit seed to reach the Final Four. UVA surrendered a 16 point lead.

More shocking that UVA gave up 47 in the second half, or that Syracuse was able to put up 47 (on anyone) in a half?

That's all good fine and dandy, but the committee would have overpassed them if UL was in.

Zero rational thought, but #HotTake away...

Let's hear why they get in then... The floor is yours

Because the committee deemed them worthy of being at least 5 spots above the cut line.

Your stance is those same 10 people would have dropped them 5 spots if UL was eligible.

Like I said, #HotTake away...

I understand what you are saying but how much of the real factor is the weight they gave Boeheim's absence in their disastrous run?

I'm failing to see the logic here.

Syracuse went through a stretch where everything they threw up was going in and Richardson was unconscious during the stretch.

Not that I agree, but I think subconsciously the committee could think "we have 9 teams in from a conference, that is plenty." In a vacuum the theory makes no sense, but these are not robots or computer generated picks making decisions on who makes the field. It is a room full of guys using subjective criteria in selecting and seeding teams.

They put 11 teams from the old Big East in before, so throw that theory out the window...

That doesn't disprove my theory at all. When you have a group of people that have no steadfast rules on selecting teams, opinions by a myriad of reasons could sway things. Again, I don't agree with it in this case, but it is not outlandish.

If they were a play in team, you might have something. Drop a team five or more slots for a conference cap that doesn't exist? Yes, outlandish...

So what about my theory? It's hard to imagine that a team that lost 4 of their last 5 and had a worse stretch earlier wasn't rewarded for their coach being suspended.

If UL went to tourney would it not be even tougher to let them in?

They still would have been given wiggle room for when Boeheim was out. UL being in might have pushed them to Dayton...

In looking at their schedule they only defeated three good teams: Duke by two, uConn and Notre Dame. :idunno:

I agree their resume is questionable. Doesn't change that the committee had them well above the cut line...
