All you folks that believe Trump is all talk and no policy need to start boning up.

 

I have said for many years that the American taxpayer should not be liable for the national security of other countries, even if they are our Allies. Then we add insult to injury by being forced through trade agreements to compete with these countries who do not have ( or have greatly reduced ) liability of providing for their own national security!

 

People are so engrossed in perceived violations of political correctness that they fail to realize they have been raped by governments (and policies) led by BOTH parties.

I don't know about boning up but that is pretty exciting.

I agree with Trump on this. I struggle to understand how we have to borrow money from anyone considering we have assisted nearly every nation in the world in an armed conflict, or defeated them in a conflict they started.

 

I see a problem though. The idea that we cut off Israel will not sit well with many.

I thought their was some discussion a while ago (last couple years) about this?

 

A Belgium pundit was saying they would probably not change anything with their own security or in the battlefield of the middle east until ISIS can sustain more regular attacks inside their country.

 

With that said, should America step up and increase the fight against ISIS because of America's getting killed in Europe?

 

Thus us footing the bill with money and lives.

Some token reimbursement is still appropriate for Israel. They are somewhat of an exception though because they require military service from All of their citizens.

 

I just burn when I see citizens of Europe, in their nearly socialized economies get outrageous benefits that are afforded in part, by their reduced national security liability. Same with Saudis.

Pioneer, you illustrated exactly what I was saying. Some will attempt to qualify some countries over others, because of policies. If we are going down this road then...

The very idea of cutting off Israel, will not only not sit well, but we must be on Israel's side in any conflict in the Middle East. Contrary to many 21st century and modern opinions, which question why should we support Israel, historical-religious-political answers can be given. Historically, we have supported a state of Israel because after WWII the Jewish people had no land to call their own and certain factions of the world tried then and are still trying to exterminate them and they need a strong backing from the Allied countries of WWII. Religiously, Christians from around the world have believed and do believe that Israel is the nation of Abraham, given to them by God. And I for one will always be on the side of Israel even though I am not Jewish and neither are the many voices around the world who pledge support. I'm not of any formal theological education, so I hope I'm not messing this up. Politically, Israel is our strongest and most faithful ally in the Middle East. Israel has also contributed to our security in the region by thwarting nuclear ambitions of both Syria and Iran, in spite of Obama's disrespect of them.There have been times when the U.S. and Israel have clashed, over security and certain instances of spying. But it's a relationship sort of like family, we may not always like them but we still love them and want to protect them. We have also benefited from collaboration between Silicone Valley and Israel's high tech capability. Israel's cutting edge of development, on the latest security innovations, has multiple benefits and they share with the U.S. Because Israel knows there is always someone who wants them shoved into the Mediterranean, security is their main resolve and innovative research to obtain it.

Do we shoulder an unfair burden of NATO expenditures? You bet we do, but as usual, Trump makes a proposal and imagines he's in a position of absolute strength when, in fact, he's not.

 

We won the Cold War. Having to act like the last superpower is the price we must pay.

I won't argue that, but Trump's constant nonsense about "deals" is complete hocum every single time. Global politics isn't real estate and no one has to deal with him to enter the market if they don't feel like it.

 

Would it be great if other countries chipped in more on security costs? Sure, but I don't understand where stuff like this comes from. Getting major powers like France and Germany to up their contributions to NATO forces would be a huge start.

This is about the only statement Trump has issued that I agree with wholeheartedy .

Then the question is who pays? Does Iraq pay? Syria? Who?

Well Israel is one country that should pay . Iraq another , Japan . The NATO nations . Anyone else ? BTW I am far from being a Trump supporter , but he is much better choice than Ted .

Only problem is we DON'T really act like a superpower.

Trump says some things that sound good in theory, the problems are usually way more complex than simple remedies can fix though.
