Track the USL 2016

Season kicks off this weekend. Of local interest are Louisville City FC and league newcomers FC Cincinnati. Can't wait for this season to get rolling.

Louisville City wrapped up an unbeaten, untied preseason slate over the weekend with a 1-0 win over NASL's Indy Eleven.

FC Cincinnati finished up its preseason slate with a record of three wins and two draws, capped by a 2-0 over Xavier last Friday.

Upcoming Schedule

FC Cincinnati:

3/26: at Charleston Battery

4/3: at Bethlehem Steel FC

4/9: vs. Charlotte Independence (home opener)

Louisville City:

3/26: at Charlotte Independence

4/2: vs. New York Red Bull II (home opener)

4/9: vs. Orlando City B

My offer from last season still stands: if it's your first Louisville City game, your oh-so-necessary pregame and halftime beers are on me.

A video of the 15 best goals from USL last season to get you ready for the new one.

I'm partial to Aodhann Quinn's curling free kick, personally, but of course I would be.

Three of them belong to Sacramento's Rodrigo Lopez. RoRo is a bad dude. He left for a team in Mexico after last season and I'll miss seeing his highlights. Probably the best player in the league the last two seasons.

I love the Bethlehem Steel FC logo/uni. Makes me want to get a shirt.

I plan to keep up with FC Cincinnati this year. Do they stream matches online anywhere?

Every match of every team in the entire league is streamed live on YouTube. They're also then archived, so if you miss it, you can watch it later.

I'm going to take you up on that.

I have to miss a couple home games early on (I won't be at the second home game on Apr. 9, for example), but just let me know.

Louisville City opened the season with a victory over Charlotte on a 94th-minute game winner by Cameron Lancaster. Lancaster is one of the players expected to shoulder much of the goal-scoring responsibility for Louisville this year after losing record-setting forward Matt Fondy on a transfer. The young striker came to Louisville by way of English League One club Stevenage FC and came up as a kid in the Tottenham Hotspur Academy before that.

Game day. Home opener in Louisville against New York.

I have to miss the franchise home opener for FC Cincinnati. I went to their season ticket holder gala at Reingheist. It was packed. I think that they are going to have a ton of support. Also John Harkes is as handsome in person as he is on TV, just throwing that out there.

Draw for the first and second rounds proper of the US Open Cup today and both Louisville and Cincinnati will host second round games on May 18.

Cincinnati will play the winner of a first round game between Indiana Fire (National Premier Soccer League) and the Cincinnati Dutch Lions (Premier Development League).

Louisville will play the winner of a game between the Michigan Bucks (PDL) and Detroit City FC (NPSL).

I love this tournament. Louisville won two games in it last year before an overtime loss to Chicago Fire in the Fourth Round.

I'm looking forward to seeing the team. They have more money right out of the gate this year than any USL team I can remember and have had a boatload of exposure through marketing.

I went to Louisville's home opener last weekend... hopefully FCC's is better than ours. I absolutely LOATHE losing to the MLS reserve sides. They're the absolute worst thing about this cracker jack league.

After three weeks and headed into next week's first game between Louisville and Cincinnati, the two are tied with two wins and a loss each.

Louisville's Kadeem Dacres returned from his offseason injury for the first time this week and took his usual starting spot on the right side of the midfield. He was everything we could have hoped for and more, netting one goal and assisting on another to lead LCFC past Orlando City B, 4-1.

Just bought my ticket for the US Open Cup match here in Louisville. Due to schedule conflicts at Slugger Field, the game is being played at Bellarmine.

That little stadium might sell out just on the season ticket holder presale.

I really wanted to make the game on Saturday for Cincy vs. Louisville but will be out of town. I bet Nippert will be rocking. Think they can hit 20K?

It'll be a tough mark to hit to go up 6k in a week, but FCC has poured money into advertising and promotion in a way maybe only 2-3 USL teams are attempting. I'd be surprised, but not completely shocked.
