March 14, 201610 yr Clinton Hands Republicans Ready-Made Campaign Ad With Promise to Kill Coal Jobs | Mediaite Campaign ads write themselves.
March 15, 201610 yr Author Can someone change the spelling in the title for me ? Autocorrect on my phone kills me
March 15, 201610 yr Hillary just lost OH, PA and WVA. I don't list KY because it is winnable for her.
March 15, 201610 yr Coal warrior McConnell misleads | Lexington Herald-Leader As far as KY is concerned I'd rather hear what she said Sunday than the garbage that coal is coming back from Mitch.
March 15, 201610 yr I have voted for Senator McConnell in every election since 1968 but never again. His campaign promises have been totally shredded and he has become way too comfortable with his rich digs in Washington. And the machinations he and the RNC have orchestrated against Trump have been the last straw. Republican Party of Kentucky, you need a new nominee the next time for Senator. He has done nothing to stop President Obama's destruction of Kentucky's coal industry.
March 15, 201610 yr There will be a lot of coal miners going bankrupt, joining the many coal companies that have already. I guess they will just have to get on the govt. payroll because no matter what Clinton or any other politician says, jobs with salaries and benefits any where close to what they were making are not coming to their communities. We can just print more money and all will be well.
March 15, 201610 yr If you work in coal or the gun business, Hillary is coming for your job. At this point you can't even play the shocked card when it happens.
March 15, 201610 yr At Leland Conway's suggestion Kentucky is now going to become the leading producer of Unicorn Poop because that is just about as viable an alternative energy source and any of the "clean" energy sources promoted by the left.
March 15, 201610 yr People, Kentuckians can demonize Obama and Hillary on coal all we want in order to feel better, but the fall of the coal industry has been coming for 30 years. It's cheaper to get coal elsewhere and unless the govt subsidizes the extraction, coal companies will extract their coal from other regions. We love this here in the good ol USA; we call it capitalism. 1. Coal won't be subsidized. The govt will not do anything to support the industry because it isn't clean energy. It isn't. Argument over. Period. 2. This is our state's fault and our politicians' fault. They fought tooth and nail in a strictly political battle accusing the left of wrecking the coal industry in KY when the Coal industry was already flatlining. Our politicians, our voters should have demanded assistance and accepted the loss of this industry much like the tobacco buyout, but nope, too many political points to earn...and here we are. We should thank our lucky stars a politician is even acknowledging the idea that Appalachia needs help especially one from the left that has been vilified by KY politicians. If she wins, she may or she may not help, but.... Coal ain't coming back. Anybody who tells you that bringing coal back is how they will help KY is lying.
March 15, 201610 yr The coal industry is gone just like the tobacco market. But the problem arises when we start buying coal from other countries ( probably China)because the U.S. runs on coal. And just like the tobacco industry, we didn't wage a successful campaign to get Americans to give up the hazardous habit. We just started buying cheap tobacco from China, no where near the quality of Kentucky Burley. And no doubt China sprays whatever poisons, even DDT probably, to get the tobacco to market. No one really cares about Kentucky's Clean Coal Industry, why would Washington powers? We were first on the map in the 2008 & 2012 to vote against Obama, the dye was cast against Kentucky.
March 15, 201610 yr I am sure Bash. I didn't read the link but either she is going to lie about Coal too or Coal is on the way out and we all know it.
March 15, 201610 yr Can someone explain to someone such as myself, who has no friends, family, or ties in any way to the coal industry, why should I want the coal industry to stay around? I have no opinion on it, I'm looking to be convinced which side I should fall on with it.
March 15, 201610 yr Can someone explain to someone such as myself, who has no friends, family, or ties in any way to the coal industry, why should I want the coal industry to stay around? I have no opinion on it, I'm looking to be convinced which side I should fall on with it. Not sure why you would. In retrospect the coal industry has shackled Appalachia for a century. Many counties remain the poorest in the nation, and much of the blame points to coal. We haven't started referring to climate concerns or clean energy.
March 15, 201610 yr Author Can someone explain to someone such as myself, who has no friends, family, or ties in any way to the coal industry, why should I want the coal industry to stay around? I have no opinion on it, I'm looking to be convinced which side I should fall on with it. The government should not be in the business of picking winners and losers in the private sector. Replace coal with any industry and I'm against it
March 15, 201610 yr Author Not sure why you would. In retrospect the coal industry has shackled Appalachia for a century. Many counties remain the poorest in the nation, and much of the blame points to coal. We haven't started referring to climate concerns or clean energy. Whether the coal industry is on the way out isn't the issue it's government officials whether it be Obama , Hillary or EPA officials artifically speeding up the process for political reasons. If coal dies because of cost or market demand I have no issue. The government shouldn't be over regulating it to force it's demise. Government officials shouldn't be making comments about being proud of putting Americans out of work. How often do these liberal politicians put these hard working Americans out of work and then replace those jobs with clean energy jobs in those communities ? Nope most of these clean energy grants and tax incentives have been giving to friends of Obama and other democrat leaders in other parts of the country. There is reason EKY and WVU trends Republican . All these liberals on the coasts forgot about the middle class worker in the middle of America.
