Study: 3 federal laws could reduce gun deaths by more than 90%

Would those laws help? Absolutely. I'd love to start somewhere.

To the extent purported in the article? Absolutely not.

Absolutely? I'd say more like perhaps.

Let's look at the background checks on ammo for instance.

I would assume they would be similar as the background checks to purchase a firearm. That would mean anyone that can purchase a firearm could also purchase ammunition. The majority of gun violence is committed by people that can't legally buy a firearm in the first place, yet they have a gun anyway. If they own a gun illegally it stands to reason they can find ammo also.

One plan that has been floated by the President and others is to tax ammo at an exorbitant rate, I've heard any where from (500% to 2500% tax) but that would again mostly impact law abiding gun owners as others would avoid the taxes by acquiring ammo the same way they acquire guns illegally.

I'm not sure what the Laws around Identification even entails. Would that mean that someone would have to collect a ballistic sample from every firearm in the country so that if a bullet was recovered from a crime scene it could be matched to the ones collected?

I have no problem with background checks for all gun sales, if a workable solution was developed for checks on private sales.

It helps to read the article rather than try to drive holes in it immediately. The study tried to examine what laws have been and can be effective and which were useless. I thought many of you would welcome those types of study but that doesn't fit the agenda I guess.

Ammunition background checks lol. Remind us again how well the mandated ammo background checks are going in Chicago?

When you liberals can fix Chiraq, then come preach to us.

Chicago.
