March 11, 201610 yr I love the OLD Johnny Cash stuff, but his later albums with Rick Ruben on American Records are pure American Country and some of the best albums of the last 50 years for any genre. "The Man Comes Around" is probably one of my all time favorites. "Johnny Cash and his hot and blue guitar" is a solid non live album of his early music. "American Recordings", "Unchained", and "Solitary Man" are all solid.

I like these as much as any of his older stuff.

March 15, 201610 yr Jim, it looks like you left off Wheeler Walker, Jr. I saw some post on Twitter talking about him, and had to look him up since I'd never heard of him. Listened to parts of several songs. Honestly I'm still trying to figure out if this is some kind of joke or if he is serious.

Honestly I'm still trying to figure out if this is some kind of joke or if he is serious. :lol2: I did the same thing. But from what I gather it's some of both. The guy is a comedian from Kentucky named Ben Hoffman. Used to have a show on Comedy Central. But the record was produced by David Cobb who has also produced a bunch of alt-country masterpieces and apparently the musicians playing on the album are white hot guys from Nashville studios.
March 16, 201610 yr Answering this question would be like me trying to pick out my favorite soccer team. Not a big fan of country. I like Cash and a few others, but it has to be taken in moderation.
