April 14, 201610 yr Mark Stoops should be fired! I just opened this thread and found why I haven't read anything on here yet on post #2 ..... Just who do you think that U.K. can get as a coach ? Seriously, no top coaches are coming close to taking the U.K. football job for the very reason that we have seen since the 70's. U.K. football will never be among the very best in the SEC consistently. Should a coach get the Cats to the top level of the SEC for a couple of seasons then I can about promise he will be leaving for a much better job / program where he can consistently be among his conference best and challenge for a "good" bowl game or a playoff spot. Kentucky is not, will not be in an NCAA championship playoff ... ever. Stoops has had a couple of very good recruiting classes but is going to take years of top level classes to build a top D1 program from Nothing. When Stoops came in, U.K. had a grand total of Zero SEC quality football players, were more close to an FCS / former 1AA team. That's just the sad facts. Any SEC team, any major program for that matter has to have depth. U.K. doesn't have a top quality starting lineup on either side of the football now so just imagine building a team from absolutely crap to a consistent winner. I didn't mean to go off on you personally at all, I have read, heard this same thing about Stoops along with every football coach that has been at U.K. since Fran Curci and Jerry Claiborne, and Curci cheated to get to the top. (I don't know how old you are but if you don't remember then ask someone that was around in the 70's about "Curci's Convicts". All I am saying is one can't make "chicken salad" out of "chicken :poop:" .... Anyway, I look for about the same from the 2016 team. 4-8, 5-7 and if they get to 6 or 7 wins then Stoops shouldn't be fired, he shouLd be SEC & NCAA COY.
April 14, 201610 yr Actually oldrambler I was being sarcastic in those earlier posts. I think Uk should stick with Stoops for at least 5 full seasons before they start evaluating the job he has done. This gives him time to develop his recruits through their senior seasons. I may be a bit overconfident but I think the Cats have a real shot at going bowling this season.

I kinda agree, 3 automatic wins, then you have Vandy and Mizzu who are really bad, so they need 1 more after that. It will all come down to QB play.

April 14, 201610 yr So' date=' you think S. Carolina is good? Or is that one of your autos?[/quote'] I think they're a wildcard very similar to UK. Muschamp, while not a great coach is a sneaky good recruiter and the kids like to play for him.
April 15, 201610 yr I think they're a wildcard very similar to UK. Muschamp' date=' while not a great coach is a sneaky good recruiter and the kids like to play for him.[/quote'] He's a horrible coach and recruiter. Ran Florida into the ground. Like UK's chances really well to grab 3 in a row. USC settled for him after striking out with their wish list.
April 15, 201610 yr What is Southern Miss like? Is that a sure win or could UK screw that up? Fla at Fla is almost certain a loss. Know nothing about New Mexico State but assume it is a sure win? I like that USC is at home makes me feel a little better about that one. Bama is a sure loss, just hope it isn't a 30+ pt demoralizing loss. Hopefully Bama has a huge game the following week and Saban pulls his stars early to prevent a useless injury so the whipping isn't brutal. Vandy at home I sure as heck hope is a win, if not, time for bourbon. Miss St comes to Lex, that is some hope but not much UK should beat Mizzu but since it is in Columbia, UK could give that one away like two years ago UGA comes to Lexington. With UGA having a new coach, does UK have a chance? My guess is a very miniscule one Not beating UT in Knoxville I'm guessing Austin Peay is a gimme? I Know nothing about them. As much as I cannot stand Petrino, he is probably going to drill UK in the Pizza Box. The possibility of six wins is there, the question is, will KY give it away like the last two years.
April 15, 201610 yr He's a horrible coach and recruiter. Ran Florida into the ground. Like UK's chances really well to grab 3 in a row. USC settled for him after striking out with their wish list. He secured the 9th rated class in the SEC, UK was 12th. Champ and Stoops, SC and UK are very similar, trying to find an identity.
April 26, 201610 yr Stoops in 3 years 12-24 overall 4-20 in SEC Average Recruiting Ranking 32 3-different OC's Extended contract Joker after 3 years 13-24 overall - 4-20in SEC Average recruiting Ranking 44 FIRED Stoops is over paid. If he doesn't go above 500 he should be fired. Time to start cashing wins on all these highly rated classes he has signed.

Stoops took over an absolute mess and is trying to build it up.
June 1, 201610 yr UK gets one of Verne's calls for his last go around the SEC. In the Swamp at 3:30 9/10.

Those two came from completely different starting points so the comparison is useless.

Coaches are measured by success. I read on here often on the shape of the program when both coaches took over. Here is something not discussed on here. Stoops era UK has poured more money in coaching salaries, recruiting, facilities than they did when Joker was there. Coaches accept jobs based on the program at that time. I compare the two based on production. Stoops was extended contract for doing nothing but recruiting. I say keep extending his contract. I think he is a good Football coach. I don't think he is a good HC. I base that on how he has had to flip is OC first 3 years. And the fact they never make in game adjustments.

The talent as I said time and time again was not good enough to be mid level MAC school when he arrived. The building was a 5 to 6 year process under perfect circumstances to start being competitive. The money put into the program will start paying off about the same point. Is he a good recruiter, I say yes. Is he a good HC, I say the jury is still out on that. Good point about adjustments particularly on the offensive side of the ball. I think that will change with the offensive staff. Nobody likes to hear it is a 5 year process and want instant success but that's not realistic.
