Overall assessment of officiating in the state?

Featured Replies

The game is filled with bigger and faster athletes, but the officials are getting fatter. Has anyone seen the guys from the 15th?

And with a 3 man crew I love the "it's out of my area" excuse.

There's too many people reffing that never played basketball. There are good refs, but there are also guys that just ref for the paycheck, or to compensate for not being able to play the game in their younger days.

Gotta love the "take the test and pick up a whistle" posts on here. Most of us don't WANT to. These guys have CHOSEN to do this.

"And as always, if you think you can do better, sign up, take the test and show us."

This statement alone is what is wrong with officiating. Whether I officiate or not will not improve the overall terrible officiating that exists today. And by the way, my basketball officiating days are long gone. Officiating needs to get better, and no one on an administrative level has the guts to say that it needs fixing. Coaches and especially players deserve better than what is being paid to officiate today. Now just because I don't officiate anymore does not mean that I'm not allowed to state the obvious - officiating as a whole is bad, and it's getting worse.

And on another note, I don't think that our state and federal political representatives are doing a very good job either. Based upon referee logic, I can only express that opinion if I run for office.

The 9th must be pretty good if Rob Lohr didn't make the cut to do the regional games?

The 9th doesn't send as many officials to the region as some others so unfortunately, Rob didn't make the cut. Ridiculous.

I think Rob does a very good job, one of the best in the 9th in my highly uneducated and "never having worn the whistle" opinion.

Ditto. Also heard another great ref may be retiring soon.

Has the player's gotten better? Do they shoot the ball better, play defense with their feet, not hands better? Do they handle the ball better without carrying the basketball? Pass the ball better, do the fundamentals better? Or do we just have more athlete's playing basketball, not true basketball players?

I think we have more athlete's playing basketball, not true basketball players, which makes the game look sloppier and the results are the officials look bad.
