Conner wins its 8th district championship and third under Jim Hicks

Great fought game by both teams. From the other update thread, the last call was a foul, and it was a foul, the question was, did time run out before the foul was called, 0.0 on the clock when the whistle blew and clock stopped.

 

Refs got together and decided that is was a foul before time ran out (no way any of them knew that for sure) and sent the player to the line to shoot two, adding 1.0 second on the clock. Scott went up to the line and everyone was yelling that he wasn't the player who was fouled, which, he wasn't, Garnett was the player fouled. If Scott had gone to the line and received the ball to shoot the free throws, that would be a technical on Conner. It all got figured out and Garnett made 1 of 2 FTs to win by 1. Again, great played, intense game by both teams. They left it all on the court, all of them.

 

Dante is going to see if his wrist got broken early in the 4th, taped it up and came back in, but you could tell he was hurting, hope he is OK, great kid. Definitely missed Sean, Adam and partial Dante tonight. Onward and upward, focus on next week and getting healthy.

2. You would never see a T in the situation you described. If the three officials didn't catch that the wrong shooter was at the line they're not giving a T. It's on the officials to make sure the right shooter is on the line.

I am not sure how FoM33 meant his comment about them not knowing if the foul was before time expired. I can tell you, from where I was standing, I could not hear the horn go off and have no idea if it happened while there was still time on the clock.

 

As for the free throws, they got it sorted out and the right player took them, this is all that matters. I really have no idea why there was any reason to think that Scott should have been the shooter to begin with, this one puzzles me.

Tough end to the game for Cooper. I think Scott for Conner walked at the end but totally understand why the whistle wasn't blown because he turned it over. Rohlman for Cooper gets the ball and gets it knocked away from him straight into Garnett's hands for an easy layup that Hendrix had to foul him on. Hard to tell if the buzzer went off or not but it was a fantastic game! It is scary to me how good this Cooper team could be if healthy all year! Down 3 starters at the end of the game and still had a chance to win! No moral victories, IMO, but you have to love how the young guys battled in this game for Cooper. The future is bright!

Congrats to Conner but I have to give kudos to the Cooper Jags. The team has been dessimated by injuries and to do what they have done gets "big ups" in my book. Losing 30pts per game and now the regions Defensive POY there's not too much more the team can go through but they are to be applauded for their effort. Not many teams can lose their top 3 players and expect much but they've fought hard and will continue to.

If Sean gets back for regionals I fully expect him to go off in his first game back and surprise everyone outside the Cooper circle.

Big fan of Sullivan and the Cooper program. Great culture and Sullivan is a very effective teacher and motivator - easy to see how kids setp up.

 

I really hope Hendrix is OK - you'd win a lot of games with 5 Dante Hendrixs on the floor - great athlete, and a tough competitor who knows how to win - and cares most about helping his team win.

 

The same could be said for just about everyone on Cooper.

Since when does complimenting kids for fighting through some adversity and not throwing in the towel = making excuses? Pretty sure you might see some "Congrats to Conner" if you read back through some of the comments.

 

And no, Cooper was not at full strength in the second meeting.

Just watched the last minute or so of the game.

 

First, it does my heart so good to see Conner's stands filled on both sides down below and a lot of people up top. What a great atmosphere that was for the players. Kudos to both schools' fans.

 

Very exciting finish. Tough one for the officials.

 

Someone mentioned a potential walk against Michael Scott. It was really close and tough to see since it was on a fall while he was dribbling. Did he have it secured when he made contact with the floor? Hard to tell. I can see why it wasn't called.

 

I watched the final foul a few times and I'm convinced it happened prior to the horn but it was hard to tell due to the volume of the crowd.

 

Chris McNeil, as I've stated in the 2018 NKY players thread, is going to be a top player in that class. Those two FTs he hit to tie it up were huge. Smooth player. Cooper is going to be a booger to deal with next season.

 

Congrats to both on a great show. Everyone got their money's worth.

I took a nice panoramic photo from the top behind Cooper's bench but I can't get it to post. I was about 3 rows from the top. Fun atmosphere last night. The regional final back in the 90's held at Conner was so full it was standing room only...it was nice to see both sides supporting these players.
