frankdracman23 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 NKU led for the first 12 minutes of the game. Then Valpo depth and experience took over. NKU shot less than 30%. Billups was the only offense. but even a bad shooting game from his normal 65% Not sure if Murry ever even got off a shot the entire game. McDonald got off shots just did not fall. Valpo is just in another place right now. Foreign players and lots of size and depth.
Wireman Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Valpo is just another level of team. They are where NKU is working to get to.
Oldercoach Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Well this will upset my NKy buddies, but, the Norse have too many players that aren't in D1 shape. When a big gets lapped consistently, it's obvious that their committment to excel needs to be re-visited. Belly hanging over waist band! Come on man! First time I saw this young man play, and candidly was shocked and sorely disappointed.

ColonelCrazy Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 The announcers mentioned that one Valpo player transferred in from LSU & another (soph PG) was a fairly high rated recruit from Montreal. I assume they're the favorite to win the Horizon League?

I assume they're the favorite to win the Horizon League? They are now 7-1 in Horizon League with a road loss to Wright State who is 6-1. Valpo is 17-4 now and has a fairly easy league schedule in the upcoming 2 weeks until they meet Wright State again. I guess some chance exists for an NCAA bid if they finish with 1 conference loss but lose a game in the Horizon League tourney and finish with only 5 losses. Probably the only way Horizon League gets multiple bids this year.
Oldercoach Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 USA #30 this week. D1 athletic ability at all positions. Size, speed, good ball control, and both create and hit shots. Brannen will need a few years to recruit those types of players. Obvious to these old eyes that Valpo is at another level from where the Norse are today.
All In Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Just for conversation, what is it that would draw a recruit to Valpo over NKU if it came down to the two?(tradition, coaching, facilities, location,etc.). Don't know anything about Valpo.
mexitucky Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 After Friday's loss, Valpo was never going to lose this game. As for the belly comments, everyone knows that. Once he gets into a full year on the meal table, I feel like he will be 1st team all Conference next year. It is all up to Drew.

Anyone who's following the team knows they're not in the shape they need to be in to run the style John wants to run nor compete with a legit D1 big team.
justsayin Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 NKU offense was tough to watch. Credit to Valpo's defense. Doubled everything/every time. Seemed NKU was playing 5 against 6. Could never find the open player.

Once he gets into a full year on the meal table, I feel like he will be 1st team all Conference next year. It is all up to Drew. 100% up to him. Remember what Josh Harrelson accomplished at UK when he decided he wanted to excel? On a smaller scale, similar success is his if he wants it bad enough and will have the discipline to do the work. Sure hope so!

Don't know anything about Valpo. Just know a little. Been to NCAA 9 years of last 19. In last four undrew Bryce Drew have been twice, once to NIT and once to CIT. Bryce was former Mr. Indiana Basketball in 94 and was the hero that beat Ole Miss in 98 NCAA (one of top 20 all time moments in NCAA history). He went on to play in NBA for six years. Understand his players love his program.
