This was the first game I got to see all season. Was really glad to see weapons other than Cole that the Colonels have.

Game was definitely a battle. Lots of lead changes. Colonels pressing most of the game. If CCH can limit turnovers they are a dangerous team. They play pedal to the metal for all 4 quarters.

Shoutout to Aiden Ruthsatz, too. Watching him play reminds me of the quote "It's not about the size of the dog in the fight, it's the amount of fight in the dog."

Correction: CCH plays Aiken @ Woodward.

Rough third quarter leads to Flyin’ loss for East against CovCath

KETTERING — It was a case of the third-quarter blues for Lakota East High School’s boys basketball team.

The Thunderhawks led 20-18 at halftime against Covington (Ky.) Catholic in the Flyin’ to the Hoop showcase at Fairmont’s Trent Arena, but got outscored 18-9 in the third stanza.

“One of the things we take pride in is coming out in the first three minutes of the second half and establishing who we are,” East coach Clint Adkins said after his squad dropped a 54-45 decision Sunday afternoon. “And for the first three minutes, they established who they were and we didn’t.

“My barometer with my guys is how well we rebound the basketball. In the third quarter, they had five offensive rebounds, and they were huge offensive rebounds that led to buckets or free throws. That was the turning tide in the game.”

The Thunderhawks didn’t go away, chopping the deficit to three on two occasions in the fourth period, but the Colonels wrapped up the win by sinking 14 of 16 free throws in the final six minutes (26 of 35 overall).

“That’s something that we’re really excited about because we’ve had games where we didn’t hit free throws,” CovCath coach Scott Ruthsatz said. “Our sophomores were the ones making those free throws at the end of the game, and I think that really shows they’re maturing as the season goes along. That’s how you put teams away.”

That rebounding margin for CovCath, against a solid D1 team in Lakota East, is really impressive.

I was wondering what Lakota had left. I know 2 kids got scholllys last year to CBU. Adam Dieball has been frosh of the week in the GSC 4 weeks and overall conference player of the week once.
