looks to me in the pic, as it did in person, he went for the ball and made a hard foul. I seriously doubt his intentions were to hurt Ben.

After reviewing the play, the ruling on the court stands: No Technical

Seriously speaking and not trying to be an idiot, but were you there? I know a photograph doesn't tell the whole story but this was just the first one, there were more...

**Edited* i just read your comment again and it sounds like you were - sorry, my bad

Both attempts by Ben to dunk were broken up and both times Covington went for the ball, hence why no intentional fouls were assessed. I know it looked bad in real time but if anything, this pic shows his attempt at the ball.

We'll have to agree to disagree....while I believe Covington had ZERO intentions of hurting Weyer, he CLEARLY was not going to allow Big Ben to throw down two "monster jams". He had ZERO chance of blocking either shot.

I won't disagree to that. I know when I played I was taught to just make a play at the ball. I didn't allow anyone to dunk on me but I never went in with the intent to hurt anyone. I'm sure most kids wouldn't want anyone dunking the ball on them, not literally on them, but in general so if a play can be made, have at it. Thankfully nobody was hurt.

I guess I'm looking at from a coaches perspective......you have ZERO chance of blocking it, so why give yourself 2 fouls?

Fair enough!

One of the rules myths in high school b-ball is that as long as you're "making a play on the ball" it cannot be intentional.

MYTH

In high school ball that is ONE way of getting an intentional but not the ONLY way. High school ball stresses safety and if the foul is deemed "excessive" or "dangerous" it can be called an intentional.

I can't tell anything by the picture.

Did not know that. Thanks for clarifying that one.

You should really re-consider what you share on here. The above helped no one especially the 3 on the floor.

Yah. Agreed.

Some of the nuts on here will read into and twist anything around.

Nothing in the refs comment gave ANY indication that score or anything else went into the actual call/ no call. The after game comment was more retrospective. The 2nd part about score and covington being the one on the ground was more like a half attempt at being funny.

Looks like another time he was determined not to let Ben have a dunk

Except this wasn't a dunk attempt. Nice try though, I applaud your effort to try and downtalk Covington.
