Burfict did nothing to try to avoid the hit.

He didn't "pull back."

There are some views of that hit here that I had not seen before. Since I was at the game, I had only seen the last one which was inconclusive. But the others ones in this video are pretty clear to Burfict's intent. I also think that a good athlete such as Burfict could have avoided the head shot. I don't agree with the thought process that he didn't have time to adjust. The brain of a skilled, trained athlete needs very little time to realize that the ball is overthrown and to tell the body that an adjustment is necessary. Burfict was obviously not looking to make the appropriate play to win the game, but was selfishly more interested in punishing Brown. That cost the Bengals the game. I believe Jones' penalty made less of a difference (although it was unforgiveable). I think Boswell was kicking well enough to have made that kick from 50 yards (his 35 yarder was right down the middle).

Crap fine and crap call. That one was almost the right call. The hit from the Bengal's DB earlier in the game, when he hit him legally, and was called for targeting was a complete joke. The no call on Gio was awful. But then again, this crew was absolutely horrid the last time they had Cincy/Pitt and wasn't surprised they were awful again.

Heres the thing with the video.

 

Burfict never leaves his feet, actualy drops lower right before the contact to hit in the contact area. The receiver drops his head right before the contact with Burfict.

 

I dont thing Burfict intended to hit him in the helmet, but he did. Based on other non calls in the game by the officials, that should not have been a flag.

Not sure that you can suspend Burfict for the 'totality' of his play without doing the same to Suh or Mike Mitchell. We can name others.

 

Kinda have to agree here, if Mitchell isnt suspended for his hit on Eifert, then how can Burfict be suspended for his hit here.

come on guys, it's a sum total of all of Burfict's stuff. Not that hit alone. Fined for the Cam Newton ankle deal, the shot the week before on the TE from Baltimore. All the after the play stuff he's already been fined for. This play isn't the sole reason for any league punishment, only the last straw.

Nah, too much sad sack Bengal mania on Monday. Mike wasn't penalized in this contest. On the contrary, he was non-existent, most notably on the TD to AJ. Once again, standing near the back of the endzone of no help whatsoever to his corners.

I gotta agree with many here... The NFL should automatically review every one of these types of plays...

 

Williams' hit was clearly clean... Shazier's hit was clearly a penalty..

 

To me, this Burfict play is not called against every player.. But if we had review of it... They'd probably still have to call it a penalty...

 

Just review these bang bang plays... It doesn't take long... Just have a guy (not the guys on the field) last look at it and make a decision...

 

We all saw in 5 seconds that the Williams hit was clean and Shazier lead with the crown of his helmet... It's not that hard.
