Time Warner and Cincinnati Bell not doing what they are supposed to be doing?

Featured Replies

If you check the Federal Communications Commission website which tracks broadband Internet service http://www.broadbandmap.gov for any of the 24 addresses which do not have service, the FCC indicates both Time Warner and Cincinnati Bell provides Broadband Internet in this area, ranging from 5 MBS to 50 MBS service for each or our addresses, However, none of us when calling either provider can get them to install the service. Boone County Judge-executive Gary Moore wrote to inform the FCC of this error and failed to get a response.

Some basic research reveals that Time Warner has received millions of taxpayer dollars to provide broadband Internet in rural areas. The commonwealth of Kentucky has given over $100 million to Internet providers alone to provide broadband Internet in rural areas alone. Opensecrets.org reports that Time Warner spent $4,950,000 in lobbying efforts of federal, state, and local governments in 2015. With this amount of money changing hands, the conspiracy theorists among us see a 20/20 episode coming.

The bottom line is, the FCC says these companies provide broadband Internet to the 24 property owners in the nine-tenths-mile area of Big Bone Church Road, yet when we call to have service installed, the companies refuse to provide service. They all have received considerable sums of money to provide the service. We still have no service.

All you can really do is expose them.

First world problems.

I'd say it's a taxpayer problem. If they were provided tax dollars to provide Internet service it's the defenition of fraud. In this case fraud against every taxpayer of the state of KY.

It is TW and Cincy Bell afterall. Both of them are crooks.

First world problems.

What are you going to do about it?

Do you have broadband at The Compound ? Just curious....

No, my Cinti Bell internet sucks. We have bigger first world problems there though - no city water. Mr. Cat is my big activist though and is currently working on a solution to that problem.

If you want something bad enough, you have to be willing to put forth the effort to reach your goals. Call your representatives in Frankfort. Call TW & CBT and keep on them. Put your boots on the ground and rally your neighbors to the cause!

On a side note with Cincinnati Bell Fioptics I noticed some bandwidth issues when using more than one wireless device in my home (Apple TV and Gaming at the same time). In short I tracked it down to the Modem/Router Cincinnati Bell forces on you restricting my available bandwidth. In other words, I pay extra for extra bandwidth only I can't use it because Cincinnati Bell Fioptics uses their own equipment to restrict me.

I even talked to one of the Fioptic techs working in my neighborhood about it and he said he has the same problem at his home too and suggested I invest in a third party router to circumvent the restrictions placed on me by Cincinnati Bell Fioptics.

In the real world this is fraud...

Maybe you could occupy something? :D

I want to add into the complaint I pay for 10 Mbs speed and it's less than 5. They say it's "up to 10", OK then.

Always invest in a better router to maximize speed.

I get that but Cincinnati Bell makes it tough to do so and they make you pay for their equipment, you can't get out of paying. It is all contrived from my point of view.

For anyone having an issue, I found this link:
