I've been listening to a podcast called "Backstory" that covers topics in American history. It's pretty good. They interview various experts on the topic of the day. Usually about 45 minutes long.

I listened to one yesterday on the history of currency in the US, in light of the announcement of Harriet Tubman going on the $20 bill. Very interesting.

I am about out of podcasts for my commute. Glad to have something new to add!

Listening to the Sturgill Simpson episode right now

Finished this one this morning. Thought their discussion of country music was interesting. Always like seeing a Kentuckian on the national scene like that.

A few items jumped out at me:

1. His favorite all-time singer is Marvin Gaye. Would have lost that bet.

2. He didn't grow up listening to a lot of Merle.

3. While bro-country isn't for him he doesn't bash people for liking it. Said who is he to say what people should listen to and why.

4. Influence of his wife on his career and songs.

5. I didn't know his dad was KSP.

6. Said that in addition to Marvin he digs the Stax sound. My man!

7. Came across as thoughtful and intelligent.

Agree with all your points. Thought it was interesting how he said someone like Stapleton who is "less" of an outsider should be carrying the flag, not him.

As soon as he said the Stax bit I thought of you.
