Bluegrasspreps Boys Ranking 12-14-15

Featured Replies

I'm also not at all sold on Trinity as a top 10 team. I think each of those teams' rankings have more to do with tradition than with their 2015-16 squads.

I disagree. I actually didn't have Trinity ranked at the start of the year, because they had no proven players, but their results make them worthy of a top 10 ranking. They beat a very good Fern Creek team last weekend.

If you flip 1 and 2, I had the exact same top 8.

Based on their results so far, Taylor Co (9), Cov Cath (15) and Central (17) are all too high. Just because we assumed they would be good to start the season doesn't mean they should still be high after subpar results. I think all 3 could very easily get back to where they are listed, and better, but they don't deserve it currently.

I think paris could be in the 15-20 range.

Lots of teams with tradition not in there. No Ballard, No LexCath, I could go on. I think that some of the holiday tourneys will flesh out some of the ranking once the first of the year rolls around.

Good point. But, even if they're not in the pre-season ranking, it's much easier for those "name brand" teams to make it in during the course of the season. Everyone has an eye on them.

What teams would you put in ahead of Cooper and CovCath? Have you seen either team play?

Trinity is 5-0 and has defeated CovCath at CovCath and Fern Creek who by all accounts is one of the top 15 teams in the state. Trinity is traditionally a "system" team that runs Coach Szabo's offense and defense meticulously regardless of the talent there. Trinity has a recent past history of consistently being a top 15 team in the state. At this point in the very young season what team 11-15 should be ahead of them?

I've never seen Cooper play. They weren't on anyone's radar to start the season and the reason they are now is the win over Cov Cath. And given my opinion on Cov Cath at this juncture, that doesn't do it for me. Their next best win is a 4 point victory over West Jessamine, which isn't ranking material.

I haven't seen Cov Cath this year but I know what they lost/retained from last year. That, paired with their results so far, make me believe they are not a top 20 team at this time.

I have seen Trinity but I must admit that I did forget about their Fern Creek victory. Perhaps they are top 20, but I find it hard to believe they are top 10.

As far as teams that I believe that are better than Cov Cath, and Cooper, I would say South Laurel and Wayne (with a healthy Stearns).

A few teams with zero tradition of not much tradition in there also. Mercer County, Southwestern and Owen County come to mind.

Some teams have the familiar names like Dunbar, Lafayette, Fern Creek, Henry Clay but in the last 10-15 years have any of those teams been as consistently great like CovCath recently, Trinity, Hopkinsville and even Bullitt East.

It's like week 3 of the season and most folks should know that like you stated, the rankings don't come to true form until after the Christmas tournaments. We'll find out if the South Laurels and North Hardins of the state are Top 20 worthy soon enough.

Cooper was on the radar.

CovCath lost a few things last season....Nick Ruthsatz anyone...and were still one of the better teams in the state last season. Back to back 9th Region champs. They've earned their current reputation.

Who should be be in the top 10 over Trinity?

South Laurel doesn't have a signature win yet and Stearns is out for Wayne County until further notice. Seems like Wayne County will suffer the "not Top 20 right now" treatment that you are saying about CovCath.

What's going on with Stearns?

What's going on with Stearns?

Hurt his foot last Friday night against Southwestern. No one knows anything else.

What about Trigg Co??????

We'll find out more about them when they play in the Meijer Classic at BGHS. They are off to a good start. I'll be interested in seeing how they do in BG.

What about Trigg Co??????

Hard to tell how good a team is when they have played bottom dweller teams. The total record of the teams they have played is 8-28, and 3 of those wins in there were against Christian Fellowship.

Now I think Trigg will be good (3rd best team in R2), but not top 20 good

He coached under the HHS coach for several so he should know a few of his tricks to get in the top 20!
