Rockcastle County vs. Corbin....Week 1

Featured Replies

I haven't heard anyone say anything about Rock's skill players. Corbin has pretty good team speed...yes I said team speed. They should be able to stunt in the interior enough to keep the 300 pounders off balance, and the outside contain by the corners and olb's will be enough to keep em in the box. If Corbin can jump out early they have a good chance. They will be in great shape; there are few coaches that have teams in such good condition in early season as coach Jewell. Most teams take a few games to get into game shape, but Corbin normally comes out of the gates in great 4th quarter condition. Someone said earlier that the OL of Rock would wear Corbin down, but if they are 300+ they will be the ones tired in the August heat. I remember when I was a senior Connor had a line that looked like a solid division 2 schools line (Justin Bolton & Co.), and they were gonna wear us down on our home field. We sent them home 28-12. Corbin doesn't have any linemen as strong or fast as myself and some of the others we had, but they aren't far behind at all, and they will certainly have a never quit attitude after last years disappointment. This will be a great game and Rock's skill players hold the cards. As stated earlier with Anderkin and company they would be in the pizza box, but that leaves the question of what do they have. Also for the first time in a long time Corbin has quality depth...does Rock??? Everyone knows there are too many variables to judge a game on paper, speculation, and pre-season hype. I have seen many games that Corbin didn't have a snowball's chance in you know where and they have pulled out the upset (i.e. Henry Clay 2000, Rock 2003? E-Town 2004 the list could go on and on back through the years, but this will suffice as it is fresh in the memory. I will not make a prediction because with all honesty I can't. It is truly a tossup. My heart is with the Hounds though.

Corbin isn't Danville, either.

And ... Rockcastle eventually got bombed in the semifinals, a week after LexCath finally got over the Highlands hump. It's not that hard to believe that the Knights may have had a bit of a letdown.

Nope......Corbin isn't Danville. Not many teams are at that level year end and year out. The ADS have ruled central ky for a LONG time. But, back to the topic, I have to go with Rockcastle due to experience.

As a fan of the mountain teams, I think this could be the best Rock team in the Larkey era. Normally a tough game, but this year Rockcastle should easily walk away with a win against Corbin.

As for the quarterback issue, Mcqueary is a tough and smart kid. He will not have any trouble following in Burkhart's footsteps.

Let's hope the Rock has better luck this year with injuries. If so, they should make a big run for the State Title. :fight:

Corbin should be better than last year, but I can't see Corbin beating Rock this early in the season. Both will be well coached and the kids have hit the weightroom, but attrition kills. Rock will have the numbers to take this game. I'll go with Rockcastle by 8-10 points.

I agree with you. Corbin numbers are the best they have been in many years with 54 dressing out, but they only have 6 seniors to go along with 13 juniors, 18 sophomores and 17 freshman. Corbin should have a lot of quality depth also, but taking on a very good Rockcastle team this early in the year will be a tall task for for a team that will be play so many young players.

Rock has only 39 that will be dressing out.

Does that number include freshman?

Gotta love a team like Rockcastle. I know nothing about them, except they apparently live for football, and they all wear 38 jeans. Strange game though, as evidenced by our 3rd place team, Mason, nearly pulling the shocker at the Rocker last year. Mason, as I recall, were mean, lean, greased-up honey pigs who either got knocked flat, or found a crease and shot through like a butter bean off a greasy fork. If the scarlet woof can work the sidelines, via run, pass, or both, then better keep the original Harlan Sanders open all night long, 'cause them dogs will be hungry. If not, and with a little Goo Be Gone and sawdust on the floor, they'll surely get stuck up in the mud, and when you get an ugly dog stuck, well... Leonard's Loser, Corbin.

Those are mighty strong words. Rock is the favorite but it is hard to hide that Redhound Pride. Hopefully both teams gain from the experience and become better playoff teams late in the season when things really matter. I think Coach Jewell may have a trick or two up his sleeve for this game. From what I hear it should be a war. May the best team win. Games like these are why these young men work hard in the heat and prepare all winter long. A true battle of Champions to be enjoyed by us fans.

I don't know about strong words. Goofy, maybe, and I try not to do that from 9 to 5 (well, 10 or 11 to 4), but I do believe slick beats stick-um. My useless analysis from afar is the only way Corbin beats those bad country boys is with lots of speed. Hope it works out, because a win like that will expand chests a couple inches for the rest of the season. I've always said that. When is that game, the 18th? We'll be servin' up some Sonny's Bar-B-Que on the hood of the car at the Cumberland Valley Bowl that night. Gotta eat.

Word out of Corbin (I heard it from a football dad) is that Freeman hurt a knee pretty bad in camp. Any truth to it? Could hurt Corbin bad against Rock.

True, but I'm not sure how long he will be out. Someone else will have to step up and fill his role.

Yes, 9th-12th grade.

I don't know who is going to win this game, but I can't help from thinking that home field advantage will play a huge part in it. I do know this, it will be one of those snot knockers of a game.
