December 5, 201510 yr Cleveland Browns preparing to go after Ohio State's Urban Meyer, report says | NJ.com In Cleveland, that coach could be Rutgers' Big Ten foe and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer. According to a report from Chat Sports, Browns ownership is preparing to make Meyer an offer that would exceed every coaching contract in NFL history and an option for "small equity ownership" in the franchise. Per sources providing Chat Sports the information, Meyer would have jumped to the Browns in the past—possibly as early as 2013—if he won a national title at Ohio State sooner. After winning a title last season, the Browns—despite having just hired former Jets assistant Mike Pettine when Meyer rebuffed their original offer—reached out again. With the potential for back-to-back titles on the table at Ohio State on the table, Meyer again declined overtures.
December 5, 201510 yr    Why would anybody in there right mind leave Columbus to go to the Browns. I would be worried if it was just about any other team, not the Browns. Urban isn't turning over rocks looking for money and why leave Columbus where he is adored everywhere he goes to the Browns and have to deal with that mess. You can't win there. It doesn't matter who the coach is. I place the odds of this at 1 in a thousand.
December 5, 201510 yr Maybe Urban will make a great Pro Coach but it doesn't worry me in the least. As a matter of fact, I hope Cleveland goes for it because then they will have less money to spend in other areas.

December 5, 201510 yr Author I agree, why would he leave OSU for Cleveland. $$$$$$ and ownership stake in an NFL team...plus Ego
December 5, 201510 yr The ownership stake in the team is HUGE. Salary OSU could probably match if they wanted. Ownership stakes in an NFL is a gold mine. My guess is he would want and get total control. I think he will strongly consider it.

It is better than 1 in a 1000. 1% is 10 million of a team worth at least a billion dollars, which the Browns are. He probably would get more than that percentage plus NFL teams are not depreciating in value.

I'm just saying that stake in the Cleveland Browns isn't valuable. Urban prides himself on being a winner. You can't win in Cleveland.

December 5, 201510 yr Well I'm not speaking financially. I understand, but Bengal Maniac was. He'd be set for life regardless how the tenure at the mistake by the lake turned out.

I'm just saying Urban isn't doing too bad financially right now. He's doing well enough that he can turn down an offer like this, just because it's Cleveland. I think if just about any other team offered him something similar he would consider.

Nice to be the subject of a bidding war.
