St. Henry was in the game the whole game was up 32-28 at the half Holmes just made a run in the 4th good basketball for st.henry they will definitely learn from this !

This Holmes team looks like they need to build their team chemistry up IMO. Not like other Holmes teams in the past but they will have a decent year

Difference in the game was turnovers. St. Henry had too many. Big momentum changer was monster block in 4th quarter that led to Bulldog layup. Don't know who had the block but it was highlight-video quality. Nice to see a bunch of Holmes students front and center, with face paint, etc., cheering the team on. Been a while since I've witnessed this.

Very good game, Wallenhorst and Goetz will keep St Henry in a lot of games. McLendon is one of the quickest players I have saw play in some time. I think Holmes kind of wore St Henry down late as the shots just was not falling like early in the game. Very good night for McLendon , Engelman hit a big three down the stretch and Commadore is hard to guard. Best of luck to both teams, both will win a lot of games.

Unlike Allstar 2345 I loved the chemistry that I saw from Holmes. Much better attitudes on the court and on the bench. Even when things weren't going well I didn't see anyone hanging their heads. Much better ball movement than the past couple seasons. I'm probably one of the biggest beetle fans you will find but I think the offense as a whole operated a bit better without him, not as much standing around.

 

McClendon played really well and Commodore has way more confidence now that he's the floor general. Moore is solid, doesn't make many mistakes at all and is a great passer. Green looks very smooth this season, he even handled the ball a bit. I was also impressed with Michael Englemon in the JV game, he looks improved. First time seeing Saxon and the younger Green kid, they look to be big time contributors in the future.

 

I really enjoyed watching this Holmes team. The past couple seasons I'm not going to lie I went to games to watch Beetle do his thing, but as a whole the games weren't always very enjoyable. This team looks promising for this early into the season. They really get after it on D.

I was surprised that McClendon had that many. He is very quick. Green had the block on Goetz down the lane that led to a layup at the other end. Congrats to the Bulldogs on the win.

There are some comments about McCle don (correct spelling) being very quick and fast. What were you watching last several years. He didn't just get that way this year. He was lightening at HC. Maybe it's just this year he is unleaded as last year he was bottled up y the coaches.

 

Also yes this year they seem to share the ball more but I also see they need to know who is the go to guy on this team. I did see plenty of room for growth on this team and of coached and jell properly they can make some noise this season. Overall I see a solid year for this team.

McClendon is as good as you will see in the region. If he were 6'2 he'd be a D1 guard. His quickness is matched by very few players around the state. And he has the athleticism to rise up and throw one down over a defender.

 

If he actually played AAU ball you would see him get a lot more hype statewide.

I mostly like what I saw in the Bulldogs. They're obviously feeling their way and finding their groove with a lot of room for improvement, but I'm confident that this will fall into place with their young talent gaining experience considering many of them are just beginning to find their roles as varsity starters for the first time in their young careers.

 

They're already demonstrating a good teamwork ethic, and it helps tremendously for them to have the charged, excellent, experienced, confidence that McClendon has for them to follow. No doubt he's their leader, and he sets the pace that urges the supporting cast to strive to be at their best.

 

Sure, he'll be the obvious go to scorer more than not, but he plays unselfishly to involve everyone, and does so with an attitude that he's having a blast out there playing loose and relaxed with what appears to be him having an infectious smile on his face all the while that says lets have fun with this guys while we maintain our focus for the entirety of the competition.

 

What they presently lack in pure shooting they make up for in a scrappy tenacious D that allows them to rack up many of their points in transition.

 

It'll be interesting to see if bigger facets of a perimeter shooting game will develop for them as they become more confident and comfortable, but for now there's not a great presence of one.

 

As a sophomore, Commodore already shows that he's on his way to being something special. He exudes a maturity and confidence that's not typically seen at his age, and this just being his first year as a starter. At this early stage in the season, he's already stepping it up. He's got three whole seasons to grow, and by senior year he'll undoubtedly be a top player in the region, but for now he already plays as a seasoned contributor.

 

Greene and Englemon also compliment the team well, and I expect that before long they're going to be hitting their stride with more floor experience as they shake off some early season dust. They both showed with their minutes that we can expect good things from them to come.

 

Moore is a workhorse that adds much needed muscle and dedicated spirited play for the team that causes issues for their opponents in the paint by being a reliable defender and rebounder. He's not timid with putting up close range shots, and his touch is fairly accurate.

 

Arnold's size and lock down defense also adds to the teams muscle and hopefully he can develop a breakthrough in finding the basket because for now there seems to be a lid on it that shuts firmly tight whenever he's near it. He often finds himself in a position to score, which would appear to be easy baskets, but connecting presently seems to elude him for what seems to be more of a mental thing than anything else. He'll add a difference making plus to their offense if he can sort out what's causing him issues, and my hunch is that it's confidence. I'd love to see him find the touch to make them drop, and if he does it wouldn't surprise me for that to be all it would take to start seeing more and more of them drop.

 

Daniels is a much needed second ball handling option for the Dogs, and with some more experience I expect to see some of his timidity fade. Sure he sits in the shadows of McClendon, but what he can offer when once more experienced will be a valuable asset to the whole bigger picture helping the team be more complete.

 

I don't know that I'd go as far as saying that they're as good as CovCath or Cooper, and we may have seen stronger Bulldog teams in the past, but they should be solid enough to be in every game against every team in the 9th Region top to bottom.

 

This might be the year that Holy Cross can finally squeak into the Regionals, but no way is that a given, and I've no doubt that the Bulldogs intend to have something to say about that.

 

When those two teams go head to head, though neither now might not be considered the elites of the region, those game/s should be worthy of being packed house thrillers.

I've never seen it spelled this way. I hope they get the spelling corrected in the KHSAA listing that the coach submitted so he gets the correct attention from scouts. Very good player.
