We sat courtside at several All A Classics over the years and I really enjoyed it. I haven't been to the tournament since he passed.

I love Joey Fosko!

 

Joey was the first major media guy to reach out to me/BGP. I remember after getting off the phone that first time with Joey thinking I/BGP have made it!

 

I know what you mean, back in the day we shared an apartment for a few years. Alot of late night football talks and he more times than not being my DD.

I sure miss Joey and think of him often when at games. I would regularly see him at football, basketball, and even baseball games. We sat together at many baseball games and compared notes on all sports and life in general.

Joey never "worked" a day in his life, because he was just having fun doing what he loved.

Before I met him in person, I assumed he was somewhat arrogant because of some of his writings; boy was I ever wrong. Joey spoke his mind, but he did so with strong conviction in his views, and he could dang near make me change my mind when listening to him! His only fault was he was a Cubs fan- which he never even tried to change my mind in that view. (just kidding on the fault)

Joey was a great guy who knew every kid who played every sport in the first region and cared about their well-being.

I sure miss my talks with him and that sly little grin he would give-

Fosko was a walking encyclopedia with a glass of tea. I always remembered talking with him at lunch the day when Cal Ripken broke the Streak. Someone said "I wonder who was playing shortstop for the other major league teams when the Streak began." Fosko named almost all of them.

Always looked forward to reading his thoughts in the Paducah Sun. More days than not during football season he'd add a little something about games coming up on Friday nights, always something that would help the week go by faster by keeping the football talk going, in the days before BGP. Now you're lucky to get a small preview on Friday and a short, generic story on Saturday morning.

At state he always got me Sun Press passes, that is actually how I got to know Guru in person was at state years ago on a trip with Joey

Very true about his reporting of upcoming games or situations around the programs.

No one else around our region even comes close to the insight Fosko put out for us. Often his information would also inspire extra discussion around the message boards.

My oldest brother graduated with Joey, so I knew him from the time we were youngsters. Many of you have shared some great memories of his amazing ability with statistics and such, so I would like to add another. Joey could add/subtract/divide or multiply any numbers up to four digits instantaneously. One of those things you just don't forget about someone. We sure miss him!

I would like to add, that he could do it faster than you could with a calculator.

I always looked forward to seeing Joey, but I only got to see him maybe once a year, twice tops. I would look for him at the State Football Finals, but the great thing about him was he almost always found me first. He would always give me the scoop on the teams from WKY, and more often than not he knew as much about MY team as I did. Loved that about him.
