How would it be favoritism if both teams agreed to the site...it would be worse if the site was assigned beforehand and when game time came site clearly favored one team over the other.

 

I think Texas does it this way maybe, schools get together and decide on location so that neither team has an advantage.

 

You cant make site selections like this on a last minute whim or it looks bad, even when its not. You have to have it out there where the games will be before the playoffs start, not only to remove the look of favoritism (again even when its not their) and also for the sites themselves to plan accordingly.

 

Also, yes it would be possible if you use HS fields that a HS could still play at home, Oh well, good for them if their site was picked before the playoffs its not an issue, if its picked the Monday of the game, it doesnt look good.

I think you could have a list of schools/colleges that are potential host sites prior to the start of the postseason. Then when two teams are set for the semifinals, use a mapping system to find a turf-field midpoint.

Nope. When we made the state semifinals a few years back the same folks were in the press box as all season.

Looking at my example, if say Georgetown was picked year in and year out as the Semi State site for Region 3 and 4 of 5A it would look to be a distinct advantage to the NKY schools over the Southern or Eastern teams. I think both schools agreeing to a site mutually that was on a pre-approved list would be better than picking a site pre-season that could in fact have a team playing at home or very near by. The only reason for a neutral site in the Semi State round is to make the drive and challenge as equal as possible. If one team could get hosed by pre-season selected site you might as well play them as they are now.

and

three on Saturday (2-A, 4-A, 6-A).

(He was hinting to a West neutral and and East neutral, without saying/posting it).

 

So Trinity/X for the west and Georgetown for the east.

 

However, based on what the matchups are, there is NOT a good "neutral" site which would be best for six West games and six East games.

 

- Male and Central Hardin are just 40 miles apart. Unless you moved that game to Nelson County (turf), no where else you could really go without making it extremely close for Male (X, T, PJCS, new Bellarmine field, whoever) or extremely close for Central Hardin (E'town High School, E'town Sports Park if it put in more bleachers). Campbellsville and Lindsey Wilson are too far out of the way for both schools.

 

Maybe E'town and LexCath could play at Nelson, but other than that, hard to split the difference.

 

Based on the six West semis, Elizabethtown High School (turf, decent amount of seating, video board, HD lights, plenty of parking, access to restaurants and I-65/BG Parkway/WK Parkway) would be a great midpoint host for 4-of-6 games.

 

But E'town would be at home.

And Central Hardin would get to play right down the street (literally -- EHS and Central Hardin are on the same street). Although CH has never played a game at EHS' turf field.

 

Picking the neutral site before the regionals are played would be a disaster.

 

However, having neutral site has its advantages:

- Possibly more overall crowd (but I doubt it when you add up six separate games at separate sites compared to just two sessions of games)

- Maybe you save some teams/neutral fans some mileage

- Helps for media (Courier-Journal, Bowling Green Daily News, Louisville TV stations, Hardin County radio in this instance) to have their teams at the same site (easier to broadcast, take pictures, etc).

No, sorry. Would need probably 6 sites, although 3 could handle if staggered. I just like having Friday and Saturday games, I'd love to go see two games in a weekend. I know we hate Ohio, but I'm a fan of how they do it.

I do not believe Ohio announces the sites before the playoffs start. The OHSAA may have an idea or the venues that are available on certain days but they wait to see who advances and then tries to pick a site that is approximately equal for each fan base but that is not always possible.

No need. All this would be is a way for the KHSAA to make money while taking away what makes HS football, HS football.

 

Smaller crowds, far travel for both teams potentially. Sure people with an interest in football could come as these sites would logically be in easily accessible areas with bigger populations. But that takes away from the communities that host, who may not be able to travel that distance.

 

Not in favor. If our school ever makes it to the Semis, I'd love for whoever to have to roll in to the Hill. Would be cramped but a lot of fun!
