Courier Journal Preseason Top 25

Featured Replies

Does not surprise me the Courier Journal left Wayne Co out of top 25. I think the Journal has not figured out in all these years, we are in Kentucky and not Tennessee. I don't know how we stack up against a lot of these teams, but know we just beat the 25th team on their court last week by 18.

Hey PP92... Will you being doing weekly analysis on The CN2 again this season? Really enjoyed that last year.

That is in the plans and I expect to be doing that weekly again. I am geeked!!!

Thank you Sir!!!!

Awesome! :thumb:

Wayne County not in the top 25? They should be top 15, and Southwest should be top 25.

Some of these teams seem to be getting rankings based on tradition and program name. If that's the case, how did Wayne not make the cut? Perplexing.

Also, Lafayette is a top 10 team, and Clay County a top 15 team.

You are spot on about everything you said!

Clay co will not be as good as last year. IMO Clay is not a top 15 team this year.

Christian County not only had a big man but they had a complete team led by do it all guard Anthony Hickey. I believe their big man hit the state title winning jump shot off an assist from Hickey.

Christian Co's starting "big" was 6' Bubba Tandy. Donovan Kates at 6'5" was their only starter taller than 6' but he was more of a guard/wing. Also, Lewis (6') hit the game winner. They were a fantastic team, but I wouldn't call them complete in terms of having someone to fill every prototypical position. They were in essence 4 guards and an undersized forward.

SV had 6'6" Hatfield, but I don't think he was really an inside thread. I think 6'3" Newsome was their main inside player. They had another 6'4" Newsome who was more of a perimeter player.

Madison Central had 6'4" Quan Taylor inside, but with his leaping ability he did play taller than that.

Mason Co had a state championship and state finalist with nobody taller than 6'3"

Height is irrelevant if they are playing big and have an inside presence. Who is the inside presence for Taylor County?

I guess my point is that some teams like Christian Co have won without any type of inside presence. Nor did Mason Co. It certainly helps, but if you have a transcendent player like Hickey or Lofton or Goodin you can win a state title without one.

The teams I referenced were more to add in information than to make a point.

Why do you think?

No real point guard. Not saying Smith and Farmer can't run the point. They can but not ideal. I just think they will miss House more than most think. Still be very good.

"AS VOTED BY STATE'S COACHES"

It's amazing how many people skip right over that line.

And look at the number of teams (10) that got at least one vote for the number 1 team.

I don't have much quarrel with these ranking especially since it is preseason. Still so many unknowns that we actually think we know.

(ex. Nobody had Jalen Perry in the Mr. Basketball conversation, but he carried Ballard to beat the consensus no. 1 Trinity)

We knew by January 1 about Perry. It'll shake out by then.

Taylor Co got a 6'5 transfer over the summer...not sure of the name but met him while talking to Rich Gatewood when Day Day Sloan visited UC for The U game.
