Bernie Sanders - The Greatest Threat To National Security Is Climate Change

What's that you say? Terrorism? Well, 'ole Bernie has that covered.

"Absolutely. In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism," Sanders said on Nov. 14. "If we do not get our act together and listen to what the scientists say, you’re gonna see countries all over the world — this is what the CIA says — they’re going to be struggling over limited amounts of water, limited amounts of land to grow their crops, and you’re going to see all kinds of international conflict."

He's such a breath of hot air.....

This theory is old. Seems like I saw one of the terror experts discussing this right after 9/11. Not sure they had an extremist multinational force in mind, but this isn't a Bernie original.

How old is this theory? The Middle East was a desert region when the pyramids were built. Should the pharaohs get the blame for the region's climate change with all the industrial activity building the pyramids?

Regardless, he's actually equating terrorism with climate change... Brilliant...

Point One. Thank goodness for a politician who says what he believes, consistently.

Point Two. His point that climate change may lead to more terrorism is not one that should be overlooked. According to a report from the Department of Defense in 2014, that is a reasonable thing to be concerned about. Sanders may be emphasizing the connection too much, but it is not something he has just completely made up. Link to the report, Read DoD report: 2014 Climate Change Adaptation Roadmap

Point 3. Sanders has a history of being right about things. He opposed the Iraq war and warned about what worse group may take its place. Most people now agree that the vacuum we created allowed isis to form.

Finally, I think he is wrong to emphasize this way, and probably misguided to even phrase it this way, but I like the guy, appreciate his honesty and thoughtfulness, and deserves better than to be mocked.

^No, he deserves to be mocked on this one. The terrorism we face from that region isn't about climate. It's about religion, a twisted view of Islam by different groups. They want infidels dead.

Do you also admire his socialist views?

This is just a dumb comment as dumb or more dumb than things people mock Carson about.

I can't take you serious as a thinker on policy if you honestly believe this.

Bernie thinks socialism works and climate change is our biggest national security threat. Haha.

You are twisting words to create strawmen. That's your choice, but it is pointless to discuss this further, with you.

Only a fool -- or someone with a lot of Exxon stock -- would say "so what?" to the shrinking ice caps in Antarctica and Greenland. Sanders is correct ... the Syrian refugee "crisis" will look like a walk in the park compared to the displacement of scores of millions of people in low-lying countries such as Bangladesh.

That isn't the point. Someone can agree with you that global warming is a problem but also think Sanders is a moron for calling it our #1 National Security threat.

Let's be honest rhetoric or line was pure pandering to the far left. No reasonable person believes global warming is a greater national security threat than actual terrorism. Global warming didn't cause these terrorist groups. Pervetted logic and understanding of their religion has led to a global jihad.

Think big, Bash, think big. At some point in the not-all-too-distant future, the tide will come in and not recede. Meanwhile, Republican fools in the U.S. Senate will still be trying to subpoena scientists' e-mails. (As an aside, did you know that the population of Bangladesh -- a smallish country in terms of acres -- boasts a population larger than Russia's?)

If your trying to convince global warming is a bigger national security threat it's not going work. It's just a silly and a not very intelligent argument if we are being honest.

It's fear mongering.

Recent stories about the diminishing ice cap in Greenland are about the here and now, not some half-baked conjectural science. If this chat board can't handle 4 Syrian families coming to Louisville, what's going to happen when scores of millions of people are displaced by saltwater? Warning: This is going to happen sooner and with more intensity than anyone would have imagined a decade ago.
