kypride Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 King of Jordan warns of 'world war' against humanity Jordan's King Abdullah II warned Tuesday of a "third world war against humanity", describing the Islamic State group as "savage outlaws of religion" in the wake of the Paris attacks. "We are facing a third world war against humanity and this is what brings us all together," he told a press conference. "So therefore we must act fast and holistically to tackle and respond to the interconnected threats whether it is in this region, Africa, Asia or in Europe," he said. Putin vows payback after confirmation of Egypt plane bomb "We will find them anywhere on the planet and punish them," Putin said "We must do this without any statute of limitations and we must find out all their names," he said, invoking Russia's right to self defense under the United Nations charter. "Anyone who tries to help the criminals should know that the consequences for trying to shelter them will lie completely on their shoulders." https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/france-launches-new-airstrikes-on-syria-and-more-anti-terrorism-raids-in-france/2015/11/17/4b84e27e-8cc9-11e5-934c-a369c80822c2_story.html French President Francois Hollande — who has called the Paris attacks an “act of war” — is pressing for changes to France’s constitution that would make it easier to hunt down suspects in terrorism plots. Cazeneuve told local radio that 115,000 gendarmes and soldiers have been mobilized to protect French citizens. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/17/world/europe/obama-says-paris-attacks-have-stiffened-resolve-to-crush-isis.html?_r=0 Obama- “What I do not do is take actions either because it is going to work politically or it is going to somehow, in the abstract, make America look tough or make me look tough.”
kypride Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 One of these things is not like the others.
Habib Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I think what he said is perfectly reasonable: What I do not do is to take actions either because it is going to work politically or it is going to somehow in the abstract make America look tough. Or make me look tough. And maybe part of the reason is because every few months I go to Walter Reed and I see a 25 year old kid who is paralyzed or who has lost his limbs and some of those are people I've ordered into battle. And so I can’t afford to play some of the political games that others may. We’ll do what’s required to keep the American people safe. And I think it’s entirely appropriate in a democracy to have a serious debate about these issues. If folks want to pop off and have opinions about what they think they would do, present a specific plan. If they think that somehow their advisers are better than the chairman of my Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the folks who are actually on the ground, I want to meet them. And we can have that debate. But what I’m not interested in doing is posing or pursuing some notion of American leadership, or America winning or whatever other slogans they come up with, that has no relationship to what is actually going to work to protect the American people. And to protect people in the region who are getting killed. And to protect our allies in people like France. I’m too busy for that.
kypride Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 The other 3 international leaders disagree. Obama won't even mention that they are Muslims. While King Abdullah, a Muslim himself, says this is a war against Muslim extremists who are fighting against all of humanity. Obama is soft and ineffective.
PurplePride92 Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I thought we are putting boots on the ground in Syria?
kypride Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 We are about to put in some special forces, if that counts as boots on the ground.
MayfieldFan Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Fan of Obama. Would vote for him again if I could. He needs to get with it on this issue.
TexasRanger Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Fan of Obama. Would vote for him again if I could. He needs to get with it on this issue. I didn't vote for him, but have agreed with several things he has done and disagreed with others. Early in the ISIS conflict I felt he was doing ok. Lets be honest thats the most messed up place in the world, not a lot of easy answers. As this has worn on, I think it has passed him by. He has went into "legacy mode" and clearly wants no part of a conflict of any kind. I'm thinking at this point it may have backfired. If ISIS was able to pull off an attack on US soil before he leaves office his legacy would always be tied to a foreign policy failure. I was playing along with his plan thinking he knows a lot more than me, but at this point I'm not sure.
Wireman Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 We are about to put in some special forces, if that counts as boots on the ground. Good then someone is about to get their butt kicked.
Jumper_Dad Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I thought we were going to sit it out and let Russia and France do the dirty work. We've known for the last couple of years that ISIS was producing oil and selling it on the black market for millions each week and yet with all of the military power that we have we decided to not strike their oil production facilities. A handful of cluster bombs and they wouldn't have any oil to sell and it would eliminate close to half a billion per year in revenue for ISIS.

PurplePride92 Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 We are about to put in some special forces, if that counts as boots on the ground. So regardless of the sound bites doesn't that show that he is in fact doing something?
PurplePride92 Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Fan of Obama. Would vote for him again if I could. He needs to get with it on this issue. Same here and I agree. There are the reports coming out about him getting faulty information to make him happy. I think that could be part of the problem as well. I'm not sold that is on Obama if folks are presenting a false picture to him. Bush had the same problems with the intelligence community.
kypride Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 So regardless of the sound bites doesn't that show that he is in fact doing something? I didn't say he wasn't doing something. 3 countries are committed to prosecute an all out global war against some evil people and he is doing surgical strikes against certain targets. Its very different and by definition not fully committed.

I just know each action has repercussions and a declaration of war on a group within a country is a pretty big deal.
