Coach Haywood will be the first person to try and take attention off himself and credit the Lord, his players, community, etc., but he deserves the accolades on this one.

Congrats Coach on win #400. It is an incredible milestone. I'm happy to have been around to watch the journey.

Water is wet, the sky is blue, the Pope is Catholic, and Belfry is really, really good at football. Best of luck to the Pirates in their pursuit of a 3-peat. I'll be pulling for you.

Congrats to Coach Haywood on win #400. The man's a living legend and personifies class and humility.

Those are Russell's outgoing seniors. Thanks for the hard work and effort that you guys put into representing your school and community. The season may have ended in disappointment but don't hang your heads, you've got your whole lives ahead of you.

As for the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors returning in 2016... hit the weights, hit them hard, and hit them often. Come back next year stronger and fitter.

Congrats to Belfry on the win. They're the gold standard of EKY. Class Act team and staff and they deserve all the success they have.

Congrats to Coach Haywood. Met him at the coaching clinic this past year and he didn't disappoint. Great coach, better person.

Excellent win for the Pirates over a program I deeply respect. Hope to see the Devils back next year and even better.

Haywood is the picture of modesty but let's give the man his due credit. 400 wins is a big time story and one that probably didn't get the ink it deserves. That's a lot of good football over a long period of time. First class coach and truly a living legend.

Side note.... The more things change in 3A the more they stay the same. Central and Belfry still looking like the teams to beat and playing really good football.

Congrats to Belfry on the W. I hope you win out the rest of the way.

Russell ... you have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. The Red Devis had a good season and your future looks bright.

Congrats to the one coach I was afraid to speak to, when he passed right by me at the Kentucky/Tenn all-star game.

Congrats to the Pirates on another playoff win. Just keep it going.

You shouldn't have been afraid. He'd have been extremely nice, from my experience.

I feel like Haywood and Ivan McGlone's careers mirrored each others to an extent. Both were/are humble, modest, no-nonsense, old school coaches who had a lot of success at their respective schools early on. McGlone had a great run at Russell from '77-'84, winning a title in '78. Haywood led Belfry to consecutive title games in '85 & '86. Afterwards, both programs just sort of treaded water for 15-20 years while still remaining relatively successful. Then, both schools experienced an influx of talent that breathed new life into each program. Both coaches experienced career revivals in their later years. I don't know about Haywood, but McGlone talked about having doubts that he'd ever return to the top of the mountain again.

The separation between the two occurs when Belfry was able to sustain its great run and Russell, for whatever reason, couldn't sustain and slipped back into mediocrity.

Coming into this season, I thought Russell would close the gap a little. But, after tonight, it feels like we're still staring at you guys from across the Grand Canyon.

Great stuff about two legends of the greatest game on Earth. I love this series even though there has been ups and downs. The pendulum will swing the other way again and there will be more battles between these two.

Holy cow that's a lot of seniors for Russell to lose. They kind of talent exodus will hit Belfry after next season but this year I think there are only 2 starters each way graduating.
