I know that the criteria for the committee is, and rightfully should be, only what has happened so far. That is the only fair way to do it. SOS for me should only be evaluated for the whole season though in order to present the clearest picture. But you cannot predict how a team will play against another based on SOS, that only furthers my point that SOS is a very flawed statistic.

 

A few things:

 

I don't think anyone is saying SOS is a predictor of future success. A really bad team playing the #1 SOS is still a really bad team.

 

You claimed SOS includes future opponents when it doesn't appear to be true.

 

You claimed ND got a bump for playing Texas because of what people thought they were going to be . In fact, ND is getting dinged in SOS because of Texas.

I'm going to bash my head against the wall for 20 minutes and I'll feel the same as after I just read this thread.

They are making a ranking based on what has happened so far , so it only makes sense they use SOS based off the same criteria. They will do the same thing at the end of the year . Your post doesn't make sense.

 

I'm not an OSU hater but by your logic if we look at this season in a vacuum please explain how they pass the eye test for the final four right now ?

I was never angry until someone questioned my intelligence. I've said numerous times that none of this matters. Your right the only logic I use for my conclusions is my eyes. Thats why I've been so high on Oklahoma for about 3 weeks now. This is just something to talk about and who really cares about this. I honestly thought this thread would make it about a page, because I knew few people would agree with me on ND and simply just wouldn't comment. So I'm not heated about this stupid SOS argument, I'm heated that someone would question my knowledge on college football. That's bush league.

It's very simple. If ND wins out the only team keeping then out is an undefeated Big 12 team. For Florida to remain at one loss they would have to beat the SEC west winner which would be everyone in the West had at least 2 losses . For Iowa to go they would of been undefeated which means every else in big 10 has at least one loss. If it's OSU that's a loss to late in the season.

 

If Clemson loses late that means their only loss was to a worst team than ND lost to.

 

Again as an ND fan I'm nervous we could lose to Wake this weekend and it's all over.

 

But it ND wins out the only thing 5hat should make them nervous is an undefeated ok st or Baylor.

Oklahoma has looked good. But that loss to Texas kills them. Then when you compare what ND did to Texas .

 

OK ST probably has the biggest beef with where Iowa is right now.

I'm not sure how you can't, even if it is subconsciously, not think about Oklahoma and Notre Dame's common opponent and not be swayed by that if that scenario does play out as you describe.

It's definitely a factor. If not, I think it's a no brainer that Oklahoma gets in. It's only a discussion in my eyes because of the common opponent.

I think you're probably right. Let's say Oklahoma and ND didn't have a common opponent and Oklahoma wins their final 3 games, ND still get in?
