I will agree that Pikeville will win the east. I will disagree vehemently that the one dimensional offense that Russelville runs out there can beat BW. That's what always killed them against Mayfield, and thats what will beat them against BW. Unless there is another big physical team in the west out there like CCH I don't see anything in there way to BG. Cov Cath is a really good team, and have gotten better as the season has gone on. That early schedule would have resulted in a ton of 0-4 teams

I will also say this, Mayfield was very fortunate to beat Russellville a couple of times. That so-called one-dimentiaonal offense ran all over the Cardinals a couple of times. Fortunately, they made 1/2 time adjustments and the Panthers wore down late in the game because of depth issues, but, the Wing-T is hard to stop when ran right and they ran it very well a few years..Some years better than others..

What Mayfield did to Russellville the past few years isn't too different than what Mayfield did to Beechwood the week after, sometimes, the Beechwood games were not as close, so, to assume, now that Mayfield's no longer in the picture, that Beechwood is going to dominate the way Mayfield did is very premature, in my opinion. Out of the years Mayfield played Beechwood, I felt like Beechwood was better than anyone else they played in the playoffs, in 2 or 3 of those years, but, there were a couple of years that Russellville would have been right there with them and then some. Very similar to Williamsburg last year and Hazard in 2011..

 

I don't know about Williamsburg but one of the main reasons hazard won state in 2011 was because Mayfield's RB (who was the majority of their offense and somewhat defense) got hurt in the BW game and played less than a qtr of play in the state game. I also believe that Mayfield seemed to struggle focusing early game, but got better throughout the playoffs. A lot of the time in the earlier weeks of the playoffs for Mayfield, teams had a chance b/c of Mayfield first half mistakes they had to make up for in second half, which they never seemed to do by the time they reached Beechwood. usually BW has similar 1st half issues, but at least this year's team looks different. more prone to shooting out of the gate hard but struggle a little in closing out games. Mayfield was always the best team at closing out wins.

Guess your opinion is to be more respected than mine. Cool. But you kind of made my point look stronger? RVille ran on Mayfield, but did they win? BW was one dimensional and lost. This BW team is far from one dimensional, great passing and running game and it's supported by the names at or near the top of the stat sheets in rushing passing and receiving. Eventually you can make adjustments to stop one thing. There is a reason nobody runs that offense anymore. It works when you play teams that are athletically inferior. I can assure you that won't be the case the day after thanksgiving, assuming RVille takes care of business and is still playing.

Both times they have stepped up their competition they got crushed. They were outscored 65-19 by Franklin-Simpson and Murray, who neither are as good as Beechwood IMHO.

 

Their "best" wins are against Butler County and Crittenden County.. neither powerhouses...

Give me Murray over Beechwood every day and twice on sundays.. I also think FS is finally playing the type ball they were expected to play all year. If you recall, FS was a Top 5 4a team in the preseason and struggled out of the gate, but, playing very well lately. Not sure they'd beat Beechwood, but, I do think it'd be a very competitive game, at worse.

It seems to be the defense mechanism reaction from the offensive coordinator in big games to revert back to the 90's strategy of run and pound. I think it is different this year. more confidence in the new offense, more experience, and they have done it no matter what, even against cov cath or other big games, they stuck with the new offense. Beechwood may have finally dug their way out of the 90's playbook and entered the new world.

You may well be right, especially considering they've got a QB that's started for 3 years and played some as a freshman and the fact he's one of their better throwers they've had in some time.. But, that does make you wonder if it's evolved more because of the players he has to run it this year.. My guess is it's the players moreso than a system or philosophy overhaul..

WI have watched Russellville on tape and in my opinion they will have no chance against Beechwood. I just dont see them keeping up. As for Beechwoods loss to CCH it was just a bad game. They scored within two minutes and it was all down hill. I think they got a little over confident and didnt take the punch but i think they learned from that. We will see.

I'm not sure about jackson, but you are right it is 2015, but historical comparisons were made, and so they were then discussed, but I also did state that it appears both of these teams this year are different and so comparisons will do little. let us just hope that both can make it far enough that we can just see how the game is played out on the field.

I for see the Red Tigers getting to make their first ever visit to BG. I just don't think Russ is as good as recent Russ teams

I've seen Beechwood a couple of times this year and nothing I've seen from them would make me think they'd be a favorite over Murray.. Murray's line would do to them what CCs did and they'd push their D-line all over the field and control the clock and keep Beechwoods offense off the field. Plus, their skilled players are faster and more athletic than Beechwoods.. Murray's secondary is also very good against the pass. In saying that, Murray has had a couple of poor performances, so, if the team that showed up vs Graves and Tilghman showed up, the Beechies would take them, but, if the team that played Mayfield & Russellville showed up, they'd roll by 2 or 3 scores.

F. Simpson would likely be the more talented team on the field vs Beechwood, as well. I know they got out of the gate poorly this year, but, they're playing solid fb right now..
