November 3, 201510 yr Not shocked to hear than a top flight athlete was being helped in the classroom. Somewhere along the way we have to understand that they are Student Athletes, with student being the primary role.

The movie (which I consider one of the greatest films about football ever) isn't able to fully describe the environment which was created in Midland nor the history which created it. Truly an eye opening book about high school athletics in Texas- not just Midland. The author made a lot of enemies, but he gave a fair and balanced account. By his own admission, he both loved and hated his time in Midland. Loved the passion, the energy the atmosphere- but hated what it sacrificed in getting there.

The book really gets into some of the finer details about how crazy things were.
