There are several big matchups in Class 3A this weekend. Which one of these matchups will best help predict who will be the champion? Is there anything that can happen that will make you think more or less about particular teams?

Personally, I think Caldwell/Mayfield is the biggest game. If Caldwell expects to win 3A they have to be able to play with a team like Mayfield. If the Tigers get handled then we can probably knock them out of the discussion.

I chose Central. If Central defeats PRP then that will make two wins over top 10 6A schools that they have and IMO would make them a heavy favorite to win 3A.

I do agree that this is a big game for Caldwell County also but their opponent is the top school in 2A. I think Central's matchup prepares them for the playoffs better and beating PRP is more impressive IMO also.

I think most of those games happened the last couple of weeks. I really don't think we will learn much about any of these teams this week.

In my eyes Boyle, Central, and Lexington are all solid contenders.

Caldwell and Belfry both have the most to gain from a big win.

I'm going with Caldwell/Mayfield. Boyle, Central, Belfry, & LexCath are, for the most part, known quantities. Mayfield is also a known quantity. If Caldwell can roll the Cardinals, put them up on the top line with the other four.

Belfry's proven in recent years that they can lose badly to JC, then regroup and make a run to BG.

Maybe, but I'd argue Caldwell/Mayfield will tell us more about Caldwell County than any game on their schedule has, even more than their games with Tilghman or Christian County. That was really what I was getting at with the question.

If Belfry can stop JC's running attack and happens to make it to the championship game vs. Central, who is a run heavy club.. then I will say Belfry vs. JC has some significant.

What's been weird over the years is Johnson Central has almost completely dominated Belfry every year but then Belfry has went on to win the state (or finish second).

I agree that to the outside eyes, the Caldwell/Mayfield game has big implications going forward. If Caldwell rolls Mayfield (NOT going to happen), they would become the frontrunners in 3A. A close game (probable), they are in the conversation as a front runner (should already be). A Mayfield blowout (doubtful), would put an exclamation point on the Cardinal regular season. Again, I feel Mayfield is one of the best teams in the state regardless of class.

Boyle vs Paul Dunbar and LexCath vs Southwestern. Nothing to see here. Just need everyone to stay away from injury.

Central vs PRP. A Central win puts another feather in their cap in a very strong season. Other than that, not much to learn here.

Belfry vs. J C. Could learn a lot from this game also. Although Belfry will probably make a run to Bowling Green, can they compete with the west winner who is coming from a loaded division? A big win here would solidify that they can. A loss may indicate the championship in 3A could be decided in the west semi final.

All of that to say "who knows". Could a loss for one of these teams be a wake up call that they haven't reached the finish line yet, or they just aren't as good as billed? I believe all the questions will be settled on the field, and I can't wait to get it started. Football fans have to love this time of year.

Belfry has seen JC run over them only to take on Central and shut them down Offensively in year's past

Central is a pro style running team.. JC is an old school bone running team that use the option.

Night and day difference.

.

Probably not on the bolded.

Definitely put them in the discussion but Mayfield is nowhere near St. Xavier who Central beat. A close win over St. X by Central and a blowout win by Caldwell essentially would equal out and make them co-favorites in the event of a dominating win.

Let me get this right. Nothing against Central, they are having a great season. BUT, they narrowly beat CAL (7-2) and just slipped by Waggener (5-4). While Mayfield (8-1) has a loss to McCracken County (8-1) in OT whose only loss is a game 1 defeat to Paducah Tilghman and has rolled since (less the Mayfield game). So McCracken is a chump, Mayfield is just lucky, Caldwell is a dream, Central is a world beater, all except (based on something that happened in prior years) Belfry is better than them all? There is nothing wrong with being a die hard fan, but (in the words of ESPN analysts on MNF Countdown) "C'mon man".

You do realize CAL and Mayfield are essentially equal? CAL and Mayfield are clear cut #1 and #2 in 2A.

McCracken County has rolled against who? Are you really comparing mcCracken to a St. X who seal clubbed #1 Bowling Green and is the only team to hang within 2 scores of Male.. let alone only lose by 3?

Mayfield is a very good 2A team but they are nowhere near the same level as St. X.

Did you skip over the fact I said a convincing win would cement Caldwell as a co-favorite?

I never even mentioned Belfry... but as of right now their resume does not stack up to Central's. If Belfry beat the #1 4A team..that's a different story... but for my money Central is the clear cut favorite in 3A entering this week because they have the two best wins of any 3A team in St. X and CAL.

That's the pot calling the kettle black. Dude....you've been hard selling Caldwell all season. For many of us.....they're gonna have to do something before we're gonna "fall in love them'em". IMO....Caldwell is not getting to Bowling Green. Regardless if they're in the West...or if they were on the Eastern side of the state. I'll gladly eat crow if they do.......the question is....will you eat crow when they don't??

You define the word homer.......
