Is it the "Battle of the Blue Tigers and Red Tigers"? Can Pikeville upset the apple cart? How about Russellville? Is there really much difference between 5-10? Who has a shot in the playoffs? Who should be in the discussion?

Dumb question...Who does Paris have in the 1st round of playoffs? I haven't seen anything else about Phelps since that thread last week about them not in any of the KHSSA standings.

The fifth place team from D5 will become the 4th place team in D6 and the two districts will meet up in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

District 5 – Berea, Bishop Brossart, Bracken County, Nicholas County, Paris

District 6 – Fairview, Paintsville, Raceland

Is that now official? I know the District 8 fifth place team originally was to come to the District 5 champion.

So the answer to your question is Paris will play Berea in round 1, assuming the 5th place team from district 5 is the opponent

I saw that too, but District 8 only has 4 teams listed on the KHSAA site, so I think it has to be Berea.

1A is matching up nicely! Can't wait to see who makes it to the carpet!

What has happened to Phelps?

I think the real answer is, no one knows. It did say D8, but there are only 4 teams in D8 now. Here is what it says:

For postseason competition, in Class 1A, 5th place team from District 8 as the 4th place in District 6 for playoff brackets, 5th place team from District 5 will not advance to playoffs.

CLASS 1A

District 1 – Crittenden County, Fulton City, Fulton County, Russellville

District 2 – Bethlehem, Campbellsville, Caverna, Fort Knox

District 3 – Eminence, Frankfort, Holy Cross (Louisville), Kentucky Country Day

District 4 – Beechwood, Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow

District 5 – Berea, Bishop Brossart, Bracken County, Nicholas County, Paris

District 6 – Fairview, Paintsville, Raceland

District 7 – Harlan, Lynn Camp, Pineville, Williamsburg

District 8 – Hazard, Jenkins, Pikeville, South Floyd

To be clear, Phelps was in District 8 until last week when they dropped out of district play. The alignment was designed for the District 8 5th place team to play at the District 5 winner. With South Floyd closing after next year, that district would have become a 4-teamer and things would have got back to the 32-team design Class 1A was originally intended to be.

Yes, but the only way to fix it, at this point, is to make the 5th team in D5 the 4th in D6.

Give Paris a BYE.

They won their District...

If they play Phelps the Hornets will bring roughly 22 players on a bus and drive 3.5 hours to get their teeth kicked in front of a crowd of maybe 1000 people.

If they play Berea they do the same thing but Berea has a shorter drive.

Either way Paris gets nothing out of this game... Berea and Phelps both probably lose money and take a running clock...

Give Paris a BYE so they don't have to risk injury

Wouldn't it be an unfair advantage to have a week off to prepare for your second round opponent for two weeks?

Their 2nd Round Opponent should have won their District so they didn't have to play a team with a BYE.

You think Paris is preparing for Phelps or Berea this week anyway?

The only difference is one way Paris risks a freak injury in the First half and another team loses money... the other Paris doesnt risk an injury and the other team saves a several hundred dollars to go toward next year
