Without doing the research myself do other 1A powerhouses dominate their district as far as running clock games like BW does?

I would highly doubt it. Really think it hurts Beechwood at times though. I know they play NCC the last game of the year but neither team is going to go all out in that one especially with banged up players from 9 previous games. But they play a tough schedule early on and then........Zzzzzzzzz when they get to District play

Both teams ALWAYS go all out in that game. It is almost always a great closely competed game.

Mayfield did when they were in 1A. Frankfort did in their old district.

I can sum this game up with this. Beechwood offense ran 13 plays, never faced a second down, and the score was 55-0.

Slusher's 50 yard TD was a short pass and great weaving 50 yard run.

Slusher had an excellent one handed interception.

Jacob Cottingham had an interception.

Justice's 55 yard punt return was highlighted by a hesitation move on the sideline that froze the defender and Justice then blew right past him for the score.

 

Everyone is looking forward to New Cath and seeing the Tigers face a test.

But if NCC vs. Beechwood were an elimination playoff game you would see a lot more guys playing both sides of the ball more than they will next week. E.g. star running back may play 20% of defensive plays but if the object were to do everything possible to win it might be 75%. Same thing for some linemen. And anyone who has a slight injury may see limited time. That's just the way it is for a final regular season game.

You don't understand the rivalry. This game is played as hard as any game you will see all year. No one takes this game off.

Believe me I understand the rivalry. But if a kid is banged up he is not going to play as much as he would if it were a playoff game. He may want to but it is not going to happen. And that would be wise because no sense losing a kid for the playoffs.

Both teams will give great effort and it will be a good game. But it simply is not the same as when they were playing for a Regional Championship.

This game will show if all the tweaks and changes made during the season will work against a championship level team. I simply do not believe either team will play the game the same way they would if it was a Region Championship......nor should they.

It is a chance for both teams to fine tune and to maybe try something new against a quality opponent. And both will want to win and play hard.

But neither team is going to do anything that could hurt their chances of winning a State Title.

Very tough to gauge after this one, but my observations heading into NCC and playoffs

 

-If there is a better freshman in the area than Logan Castleman I want to see him

-Kyle Fieger is really good. Incredibly accurate

-Ethan Stringer is a monster running the football. Very fast, and can get the tough 5 yarder if needed. They've also started playing him on D at LB. if there is a faster LB combo than he and Slusher I have not seen it

-Since the start of the season the adds of Rowe on the line, Stringer at LB and Cottingam on D are huge.

-Trevor Soward has adjusted to varsity football and is really playing well

-Justin Overstreet is big and nasty

 

This team has made great strides since game 1. They are poised to make a deep run, and for the first time all year I think they are a real contender to go to BG

Beechwood doesn't suck.

Very proud of big #70(son) and his teamates for playing hard tonight. We suited 15 with a bunch of youngens. Actually got a few first downs. Next year.

Well said Dayton fan. It may sound weird to say in a game with a score like this but Dayton has some players and I think they are well coached. If the players will stay committed, work hard and listen to their coach, they will be much better next year
