Top EKY RBs

4 of your top 5 are all from the same county (Whitley)....Is that the only county that is in the "extreme southeast corner of the state" ?

Actually only 3, Lynn Camp is in Knox County, and TR Christopher comes from Bell County, and Corbin players could be from Knox, Laurel or Whitley, being how Corbin borders all three counties.

Actually, the backs that I listed are from Bell County, Whitley County, and Knox County. I think they are the best that I have seen from among the folowing counties: McCreary, Whitley, Knox, Bell, Laurel, and Harlan Counties.

Speaking of fresh faces, I should have mentioned Arron Watts from McCreary County. Arron is going to be freshman but, he is probably going to be the quickest back in the area. Watts is already a division 1 type athlete.

LC99 I was under the impression Root was playing Full Back but you may be correct. I know that i have seen him play full back in the past and he was a load.

Root will be hard to bring down, alot depends on how well he can hold onto the ball. Charlie Bryant started off good last year for the burg but he had some trouble with fumbles and it slowed him down some.

I look for Dustin May from Belfry to make a statement this year. I guess last year he was overshadowed by Matt Maynard, but this year I think he wil make his own statement and if he does Belfry will be in fine shape come postseason time.

Cody Quinn from South Laurel will be a big surprise to many, but not those of us who have seen him play. He could actually be an improvement over Cory Brown as Brown was more East/West and Quinn is more North/South with the ability to go East/West when necessary.

Ryan Brandenburg from North Laurel is the consumate power fullback. Big, strong and hard to bring down. He will give NL that big powerback if someone can just take over the TB spot, they could have a solid running game this year.

I expect Cody Quinn to have a huge year.

Also — and I can't believe you glossed over this, unless you're hoping to surprise people — I can't imagine a situation where Shawn Asher won't get 25 carries a game for North Laurel. I know they'd like to have him at WR, but after seeing what he was capable of against the best in the district, you gotta start him in the backfield, or at least work him split between WR and RB. If I'm David Abbott, I get the ball in Asher's hands a good 70 percent of the time, if not more.

I agree that Asher will have to be the go to guy. They will get the ball into his hands from various positions either from the backfield, wing, or TE/WR. He has to have a big year for NL to have a productive offense.

Root started at guard as a freshman due to numbers and was honarable mention all district. The past 2 seasons he anchored the line at center and was arguably the best blocker on the team and one of the best in the district. Pretty sure he did not give up a sack last year. Williamsburg asks different things out of the fullback position. Root may get 8 to 10 carries a game, and catch 2 to 4 passes a game. The key for him will be blitz pick up, which is where Bryant struggled so badly last year. He is a downhill runner and gets behind his pads well. 40 time is 4.7 to4.8 range, decent but not a burner. Pretty sure holding on to the ball won't be an issue as he has played the position before in middle school and has been well coached on ball security his whole life..lol (his dad is a coach). If he gains 600+ yards rushing this year, and catches 30 or so passes, Williamsburg will do well.

The White kid is no back! great reciever

According to stats the Top Rb In the Entire State of Kentucky not only just EKY, is no other than Knott County Centrals Bobby Owens .

I never know which thread to include Southwestern.. Eastern Ky. Southern Ky. or Central Ky. Most folks identify us with E.Ky teams so I'll add S.W.'s Wes Hampton and Ryan Smart to the list as E.Ky's best RB's

Yada, yada, yada....

Not saying the kid isn't a good back, but there is more to base this on than stats alone.

Kenny Hughes who came in and played great for the Jumpers at fullback last year while Matt Salmons was out with an injury. A.T. Hunter is also one to look for out of the Jumper backfield this year.

I cant wait to see the backs at Russell this year, I watched them in 7 on 7 this spring, they looked good as defense backs. I know that people say that you cant have 3 backs inthe same back field who are top backs but the good thing about Russell, YOU NEVER KNOW WHO IS GOING TO GET THE BALL, and any one of them can break your back on a play. I remember 2 years ago when Josh Gross had big numbers, we had 22-26 kids run that ball that year. thats alot of kids touching the ball.

We have the entire running back stable back from last year that played in the state championship. Lewis had an INT on defense that shut them down, He had the first opening kickoof recovery on the short kick, Hes quick.

Clark pounded the dog meat out Owensboro Cath. the entire game. Jones is now a junior and is absolutely huge this year. He and Kasey are the same size from what I have seen at practice, He will hit you like a runaway train.

Like I said, never know who is getting the ball, thats what makes Russell so elusive.

Johnson Central led the state in rushing by a fairly wide margin last season. Barring a rash of injuries, I believe that they will again contend for top team rushing honors, despite the loss of Ron Blume. Fullback Blake Johnson was one of the top running backs in EKY last season, but his carries were limited because of Blume's explosiveness.

JC's rushing attack may be too balanced this season for any single back to get the kind of attention that Blume received, but it should not surprise anybody if the team rushes for more yardage this season than it did last season. Johnson, Welch, Grim, and Dillon will provide Matney with plenty of offensive firepower. In addition, the Golden Eagle's passing game wil be a big question mark following the graduation of Music, which means they may rely on their running game even more than last season.
