I checked with Frakes. He said it is supposed to be a "senior" award but the AP has gotten lax about nominations.

Daric Pugh stats for 2014 9 games 142 carries 1335 yards(9.4 per carry) for 148 per game 24 tds for average 17.6 per game both first in 1 A 2015 13 games 173 carries 1 826 yards (10.5 yards per carry) for an average 140 per game first in 1A scoring 33 TDs 228 total points while averaging 17.5 points per game so for two years Pugh has led these categories in 1A and is fourth in scoring and top ten in rushing over all classes. How could he not be considered if anyone in 1A is ?

 

Great stats and great Highschool player but not had the publicity! I hate that he's not had really any college offers. To me that comes from hard working coaches making those phone calls and sending those emails just like Coach Kinner and Cherico did for Kash! Without them UK doesn't show up! Still plays D1 just not SEC! Gotta be willing to aggravate as many people as possible to get those kids in the door! Interested to see who gets Mr Football now after everything is playing out! Some may have been favorites but focus may have swayed to others still playing! To me it's hard not to award it to a kid that has showed true leadership by never quitting and leading his team to the state Championship Game! One kid that's showed everyone a ton (though I don't know what year he is) is Workman for Johnson Central! That kid suffered a knee injury mid way though the season and battled through it to lead his team to state! That says allot for his character! Good luck to all the players nominated! A LOT of talented athletes in our great state this year! Looking for Kent Phelps to be atop the list for next year!!

To Win Mr. Football, it is as much a popularity contest as it is a grid-iron contest. I like Q Baker, but don't think he is very well known across the state.

 

I think it's Kash Daniels to lose for this reason AND that he is going to UK. If media people are the one's selecting this award this is the world they live in.

 

I, myself, would vote for Riley Hall. Kid has STARTED since he was a Freshman.

Freshman Year - Lost 4 games - ended 3rd round of playoffs (Harlan County)

SO Year - Lost 1 game - State Championship Game (BG)

JR Year - He didn't lose a game (Pulaski lost 2 games where he was injured). Won 5A Title.

SR Year - Lost 1 (At 6A Scott County) - Beat Highlands AT Highlands in Playoffs - Play BG for 5A Title Saturday Night.

Can't leave out NewCath RB Jacob Smith he will be playing in his 4th state championship game. He has over 4000 career rushing yards and I believe over 1500 yards this season.

44 catches for 744 yds - 14 TD

22 tackles - 4 INT

9 rush - 88 yards - 9.8 avg

1-1 passing - 41 yards - 1 TD

15 punt returns - 193 yards 12.9 avg -1 TD

 

Going to be a lot of fun watching him play for UL. Could see Kash trying to cover him in the flats next year. I stress...he may play both ways for the Cards.

 

I would also be interested in seeing Zachary Smith's overall statistics at WR and punt return. Outside of Burns - I'll throw Z Smith (Male)into the mix. Best player on the best team in all classes...in my opinion.
