5th Region Top 3 teams & players

Featured Replies

Watched Nelson and Breckenridge Co Wednesday night .

Breckenridge is long and physical, plays smart is picked to win their Region.

Nelson who no one is talking about only lost by 5 winning the last 2 quarters.

Cameron Cornish is a slasher and Bradley Watson played around the basket . Max Ryan lead knocking down 6 three pointers finishing with 25.

Not sure what Nelson will do but they maybe a team everyone is overlooking

Breck is decent, but the 3rd is expected to be way way down this year.

Meade is the BGP preseason favorite in the third, and that might not be saying much considering Meade was 0-4 against the 17th District last year.

Nelson might be around the 5-10 range in the 5th Region this year, but there is a huge dropoff from Taylor-North-Bardstown-John to whoever (LaRue no interior play, Central Hardin has to deal without Nichols for awhile, E'town will have its youngest and weakest team in forever, Caverna is a one-man team).

Matt Miller is a very good player. High quality kid. Always treated me great and always gracious of his opponents. Rarely, if ever, loses his temper.

However, Goodin is nationally rated.

Sloan has several offers.

So did Faulkner (before picking NKU).

Jackson has multiple D-I offers.

Where is Matt even looking at?

D-I offers shouldn't be the end-all, be-all when it comes to judging how good a kid is, but Miller is NOT some hidden gem. He's been a fixture in a solid program for a while.

People should/do know who he is by now, which begs the question when it comes to recruiting: How come no one big (at least reportedly) wants him?

He has a WKU offer and 1 or 2 more if I am not mistaken.

Watched JH and Bullitt East last night and I'll tell you what. This team even with all the rust and everything looks REALLY good. They reset scores every quarter but my bet is John won by about 6. Player of the game in my eyes is this Junior named Taj Taylor. He had 9 points and 5 rebounds and made an impact. Matt tookover again and they just didn't have an answer for him. I would say he had around 15-20. JH looks good. Scary good with all the football player contributors that at still rusty

Adding up the individual quarters, Bullitt East won by 8. But both teams will be very tough outs in their regions. Matt Miller looks like he's spent a lot of time in the weight room in the off season.

Yeah both looked pretty good last night. But this is on par like last year for JH. Matt is still taking too many shots. It's just not good for chemistry with the team. There will be many games when his FG% won't be as high. Coach has to get a handle on this issue. Seems like the kid is auditioning every night to prove himself and nobody says anything to correct it. JH actually has some decent talent this year, I'm just disappointed that they play exactly like they did last year

He does not have a WKU offer. Or if he does, it's not been reported.

If he DOES have a WKU offer ... why didn't he sign when Boley/Warden/Faulkner/Goodin signed earlier this month.

What's the point of waiting?

Sure, he MIGHT be able to land somebody better (but it's doubtful this late in the game).

However, he could still lose it.

Plus, how many scholarships does WKU still have out there?

Watched Nelson County play Henry County tonight. Say watch you want but I witnessed Ryan from Nelson score 35 in a win. It's not Taylor or North Hardin competition but if Ryan plays like that Nelson will be in the top 5 in the Region

Bullitt East led by 19 after 3 quarters & Tyler Sharpe sat most of the fourth quarter. They played alot of players which is typical of Blackburn in scrimmage situations. This is really what pre-season is for. If starters had played normal minutes Bullitt East wins by 20+.

Agreed, huge drop off....

Agreed, Brewer and staff always has their team ready.

If Nelson thinks it's top five, it needs to beat the Bethlehems, Central Hardins, LaRues, Cavernas, Thomas Nelsons, Adairs of the region each and every time. Handily. You have close games with those teams and you're not top five.

And scoring a bunch of points against a Bullitt East team testing things out instead of relying in a seven-man rotation ain't saying much.

Plus, it needed Ryan to do that. Doubtful Ryan will put up numbers like that against Taylor, Bardstown, North and John when it actually matters.

You think Bullitt East cares Nelson won the scrimmage or some random kid -- no offense, but he's no Goodin, Sloan, Jackson, Miller, Faulkner -- goes off in said scrimmage? I'd wager "no" on both counts.

Yes, you could say "Told you so! Told you so! Neener neener neener" if Nelson County finally does something this season.

But we should probably wait and see, especially since it's been a while since Nelson was a boys' hoops threat (and still has NOTHING to its credit to prove it deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Taylor, Bardstown, North, John).

Not saying they couldn't beat JH by 20, don't think they can BTW. But JH just got it's football players back on that day. Plus Tyler and Jared played significant minutes well through the 4th quarter, as did Matt Miller (puzzling to me). I think both teams should be excited about the upcoming season though

Sorry to ruffle your feathers a bit but what does Bullit East have to do with any of this? Also I was just telling what I witnessed.

You don't have to fire at me
