Once again, I am an unbiased third party. I saw what I saw. I have a reliable source who will be looking at the refs arbiter system who will let me know after he reviews the tape and I will let you all know what it says. Until that happens I stand by the fact that I believe it should have been an HC TD. I will say this again though. NewCath is an undisciplined team and they earned every penalty the got called on them. Very dirty as well and they got caught multiple times tonight. If NewCath has any chance of going deep in the playoffs their practices will be the worst and hardest they have ever experienced to remind them that penalties and dirty play will not be tolerated or condoned.

Hmmm interesting post but I guess Holy Cross was perfect angels on the field tonight? No need to answer because we all know the answer to that.

Once again I will let you all know when I find out. I am man enough to admit if I was wrong. I just hope that if I'm right that the NewCath fans will suck it up and take it like a champ. Of course it's irrelevant at this point but if they run into HC in the playoffs and don't change their ways it may be an early playoff exit for the Breds.

Lol

The penalty count and severity of the penalties WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE!! Hang your NewCath hat up and call a spade a spade. C'mon!!! Really??? I never said HC were angels but come back to reality. Ask your NCC coaches what their penalty count and penalty yard comparisons were. That will tell all.

Same rule applies on a kickoff.

Let's say the returner is trying to prevent a kickoff from going into the EZ so that he can return it. Kick is high and he jumps up to try to catch it. Tips off of his hands and lands in the EZ. Dead. Doesn't need to cover it up. Kicking team can't recover. Touchback.

Same play.

In high school, punts can't be returned from the end zone?

The ball was touched in play and rolled into the end zone where it was picked up by the punting team. TD!!!

No kicks can.

The touch is irrelevant since it is not "possession ."

But, hey, keep on saying "TD."

AGAIN!! I WILL GET THE FINAL RULING FROM MY SOURCE AND LET YOU KNOW!!

Clyde is correct. We had a similar situation in a recent game, and that is exactly how it was administered - Touchback.

I don't agree with it, or necessarliy like it, but that is how it is in high school football.

You asked the man for a ruling. He gave it to you, and yet you now dispute his interpretation.

From the rulebook:

2-24-2 A kick ends when a player gains possession or when the ball becomes dead while not in player possession.

Key is that the kick never ended because no team gained possession

6-3-1-a it is a touchback of any free kick or scrimmage kick: which is not a scoring attempt or which is a grounded three-point field goal attempt, breaks the plane of R's goal line, unless R chooses a spot of first touching by K.

Since the kick never ended it was still a kick when it went into the EZ. Any kick going into the EZ is a dead ball and a touchback.

I didn't dispute his opinion. His opinion is not a ruling since, as far as I know, he is not an official. I will find out from my source who is a VERY WELL RESPECTED official and let you all know.

Your source has the same rulebook I just quoted.

I'm going to have stats in a few minutes for everybody. I was not at the game tonight (son's rehearsal dinner for wedding tomorrow). However, I just got the paper stats from my assistant and I have entered them in the software.

On the last play Scott INT, who intercepted for NCC and at what yard line? I will watch the film later if nobody knows. Right now, I'm guessing because I wasn't there! Sounds like it was a good game.

And will have the opportunity to review the tape. If I'm wrong I'll be sure to admit it.

The only thing on the tape that could change this was the returner gaining possession of the punt.

You were there - I wasn't. Did the returner gain possession?
