I figured you'd opt for write-in votes for all your favorite '80s hair metal bands. Not sure if Whitesnake got a big enough percentage of the vote last time, so it may be up to the Veteran's Committee to decide their fate.

Some of these are WAY long overdue with the biggest obvious long term snubs being The Spinners, Deep Purple, Yes, Chicago, and Steve Miller.

...and it's a crime that Yes wasn't awarded this honor years ago, and that it didn't happen before Chris Squire had passed away.

No, I was shocked he included them. Lawnboy impressed me that he didn't play the "I only like metal" card that often comes into play with the metalhead crowd.

Ridiculous that Deep Purple is not already in.

If Purple gets in, you might be shocked at who that could end up including. David Coverdale was a member of Deep Purple at one time.

Ridiculous that Deep Purple is not already in.

As a matter of fact, Ritchie Blackmore should be in on his

own as far as I am concerned. He might be one of the top 5 most influential guitar players/riff writers in history. Of the current nominees, Blackmore as a member of Purple, is possibly the ONLY one who's riffs can still be heard in any random guitar store.

If Purple gets in, you might be shocked at who that could end up including. David Coverdale was a member of Deep Purple at one time.

 

The Rock HOF is able to induct specific lineups.

 

Personally, I have nothing against Coverdale. I kinda liked some of the Whitesnake songs. But I would have issues with him being in over certain more-worthy candidates. Like, The Smiths, for instance, or Cheap Trick.

I would be surprised if he gets in with Purple, as he wasn't considered part of the "classic" lineu, but I guess it's possible. The Coverdale/Glenn Hughes version of Purple was very good. Cheap Trick probably should have already been in too.

The ultimate snub has to go to Journey, as they have NEVER been nominated......:no:

Yet, Green Day, Beastie Boys, & Red Hot Chili Peppers are in, as Bob Trumpy would say, "give me a break". :isurrender:

Have every Chicago album thru 18. The first 7 are why they belong. Kath was awesome n the blend with Cetera n Lamm n horns was awesome.

 

Cars are a staple to me. Loved what they did, when they did it. Too poppy by mid 80's but great early stuff.

I've been listening to CTA this morning. Their first two albums were amazing and 3, 5, 6 and 7 were all good. After Kath died it became Cetera and Lamm, and Lamm didn't write any big hits after that. Cetera hit #1 from Album X with If You Leave Me Now. Big ballad hit. It only got worse from there. I have to admit though that the bass heavy Feelin' Stronger Every Day is one of my favorites though it's a Cetera song. Chicago definitely belongs in the HOF.

 

Cars are one of my all time favorite bands and their songs have been my ringtone for years and years. Currently Dangerous Type. Good depth of hit songs and they deserve to be in as well.

 

Yes 90125 got me through my junior year of high school.

I've been listening to CTA this morning. Their first two albums were amazing and 3, 5, 6 and 7 were all good. After Kath died it became Cetera and Lamm, and Lamm didn't write any big hits after that. By Chicago X the coke machine had been hit a lot and the muse was more corporate than music. There are some good things on X and XI but not the same vein as the early fusion of jazz and rock. Loved almost all of Kath's stuff. (Even "Hour in the Shower" Suite is great for it's allusions to life on the road and libido) Broke my heart in '78 when he died. One of the ironies to me is Seraphine's song "Little One" is sung by Kath on Chicago XI and it almost sounds like a farewell. (That and Lamm's "Take Me Back to Chicago.")
