Okay, what's going on here? Is this game losing its luster?

 

Usually we have a bunch more pages by now. St. X guys where are you? T guys, we're being awfully quiet.

 

This is going to be the highest attended game in the state all year, what gives?

With the St. X fans quiet and nobody speaking up on their behalf, there isn't much to discuss.

 

Also, most of the people who will show up to the game aren't the type to lurk on high school football forums. :lol2:

 

That said, I'll be there with a decent chunk of the family.

IMO, the rivalry is changing because the programs are different than they were even 5-6 years ago. Trinity has a philosophy and X does too. Differences causing fans to not be as engaged or involved.

 

Tigers need to have mistake free game and run football.

Really? I would think with the win last year y'all would be glad to argue this year.

 

I can only say that according to my brother the rivalry is alive and well in hallways and classrooms of Trinity. Does St. X not reciprocate?

Part of the rivalry has lost its "luster" because of the way the playoffs have pitted these two teams against against each other.

 

Another part of the rivalry, especially silly from the X side is the separation in the fan base. The Wolford Era was supposed to bring X football into the "modern football era", but instead it has put a huge divide between the fan base.

 

I saw X in person when they played BG and was impressed with their offense and their QB play, but their defense left a lot to be desired. If the offense plays to their capability they will give T all they want. The X defense is the area of concern for me.

That really is too bad. I do think that at first, the playoff games were great to have because they didn't happen as often. Nowadays though it feels like an inevitably.

Yeah, I believe so. It feels more lopsided now than then. Possibly that has to do with the fact that I was younger or because X and T were meeting in the playoffs pretty much annually over the last decade.

I think it is the playoff meeting. Trust me when I was at St. Rose in the 90s it was pretty miserable to be the only future Shamrock in the class. Then to get to Trinity in 1997 only to win the regular season, lose the title to X and then lose in 98 and 99 before Beatty's arrival my senior year. The 2000 season was such a breath of fresh air for the program. Too bad it ended on a walloping against Male.

With this rivalry before came banter between former teammates on the grade school level. Certainly we are bantering between the St Mary's and Holy Spirit, St Patrick, and Our Lady of Lourdes players which are the grade schools of our running backs so Trinity has knowledge of them. I don't love Trinity players, I don't hate Trinity players- I just don't know Trinity players, i.e. the leading tackler, the leading running back(s), the leading interceptor, leading reciever(s). I admire their talent but don't have strong feelings one way or another. (Love or hate ) It isn't apathy because this is an exciting St X team going up against the 1st or 2nd ranked team in the state.

The Tiger fan base is as strong as ever. The Wolford Era is one thing. Its a continuation of St. Xavier Football. There was successful football before during and after Mike Glaser. Coach Glaser loves St. Xavier. Coach Wolford loves St. Xavier. Both care for St. Xavier and put the kids and school ahead of themselves. So get off of the ERA bashing Bull crap.

 

Championships go in cycles. Look at Notre Dame, Florida, Texas, Michigan, Ohio St ect...

 

For the game....

 

Trinity has athletes all over the field and Trinity's lines are bigger than the Tigers. For St. X to win or be competitive they will have to be the team with most disciplined the bigger hearts and the better coached team.

Yeah I know what you mean. I went to St. Martha and our class was split during the early years, but when I graduated in '01 the majority of the boys shifted to the T side while only about 10 (give or take) or so of us went to X. Beatty has been a huge factor in transforming this series, in my personal view if X would have been able to win a few more championships from 05-09, the series may not have been as lopsided. Those losses still leave a bitter taste in mouth as a fan.

My team is on a bye week and I have to pick up my son for U of L's fall break so I'm going to try to catch this one. It's on my bucket list.
