Brossart was down 20-14 at half. Second half got a little sloppy but they kept their composure to get the win.

Went to the game, great atmosphere for Wes tonight, glad Brossart got the win for him. Student section was great, Brossart did the superhero theme so they could call Wes their superhero. Loved it. Btw my prediction was almost correct! I said 28-21 in the prediction thread.

No, in 2010 went 6-5..started the season 5-0 according the the KHSAA website.

Tonight was "Win For Wes" night. Wes Dunn is a 7 year old, second grader at St. Philip, who is the cousin of Mustang football player Chase Keller. He was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer back in November of 2014 and has undergone numerous surgeries, radiation, and kemo treatments.

 

Our players went to St. Philip during the lunch hour on Monday and invited Wes, and his twin brother Will, to serve as honorary captains tonight.

 

In addition they attended practice on Thursday ate at the team dinner following practice. Tonight they led the march up Washington Avenue to Bob MIller Stadium and led the team out on the field. Wes called the coin-toss and instructed the official that we would take the ball.

Considerable money was raised by BOTH teams for Childhood Cancer Research.

Mustangs improve to 5-0, and more importantly 1-0 in their 1-A District race with a 27-20 win over Nicholas County at Bob Miller Stadium before a large turnout.

 

Brossart struck first as Chase Keller recovered a Bluejacket fumble deep in Nicholas County territory which was capped off by a Craig Pfefferman 1 yard run. The Cetrulo PAT was good and the Mustangs led early 7-0.

 

Nicholas County answered in the second quarter on a 1 yard plunge by Bailey O'Brian, capping off an 89 yard drive, to make it 7-6 in favor of Brossart after a failed 2-point conversion attempt.

 

A 3 yard run by Dalton Dailey at the 3:09 mark of the 2nd period gave the Bluejackets a 12-7 lead, when again the 2-point conversion failed.

Brossart answered at the 2:18 mark when Frank Cetrulo broke loose for a 57 yard scamper making it 14-12 as we approached halftime.

But it would be the Bluejackets who scored last in the first half, putting 8 points on the board with 0:01 showing on the clock. This TD on a 23 yard pass play from O'Brien to Aaron Conyers followed by a 2-point conversion, giving the visitors a 20-14 lead and momentum at the half.

 

The Mustangs kicked off to Nicholas to start the second half, but we forced a fumble and recovered/ We would later score on Craig Pfefferman's second TD gallop of the night, a 13 yard run to paydirt, capping a 58 yard drive. The PAT was wide left and we were tied at 20-20 with 4:41 to go in the third period.

 

The final Brossart score, which proved to be the game-winner came at the 11:23 mark of the final stanza when Craig Pfefferman carried the piggie 26 yards for a Mustang TD, and Cetrulo nailed the extra point giving the Mustangs a 27-20 lead.

 

In their two final offensive series, Nicholas County fumbled the football, both of which were recovered by Brossart allowing the home team to Win For Wes and improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in district play.

 

On the night Frank Cetrulo rushed for 103 yards and then discovered that he had scored a 35 on his ACT test. Nice nights work!!!

 

We will take on Ludlow in independent play next Friday night at 7pm in the River City.

Thank you Stang. I had not heard his story, poor guy. I will be praying for him and his family. Brossart as a community showed what it was all about. Well done. Hopefully that positive energy will win the day.
