US Soldiers Told To Ignore Sexual Abuse by Afghan Allies

Featured Replies

Raping teenage boys is a status symbol? Murdering your 12-yr old daughter for kissing a boy is accepted? Are these their religious beliefs or strictly a cultural thing or both? It makes you want to vomit.

We stick our noses in all the time when other countries are committing crimes. What if we had stayed silent and let Hitler kill all of the Jews. His countrymen certainly were not going to handle it.

It sickens me that our government is telling U.S. soldiers to look the other way on this.

I recommend that you watch this. This is throughout the country believe me.

History and science are big weaknesses of mine so....

Was the killing of Jews by Hitler the reason the US entered the war?

No it wasn't. But when we found out about the atrocities, we certainly didn't turn our backs on it.

We are working WITH the Afghan government vs being at war with the German govt.

Ally vs combatant.

The US military has forgone some of its basic values in order to accomodate the people we are trying to help in these regions.

If we continue to give up our values, irrespective of what countr(ies) they may occur in, I do not believe we will survive...

Perhaps we shouldn't be working along side such a government then if their actions go against our beliefs. But that's a topic for another thread altogether, I suppose.

THAT is the question at hand. It's really why I posted the thread. We ALL are against abuse. Issue is that we are not in the US.

There is definitely a double edged sword in this. If we turn away from the Afghani tribes, we lose our only ally in Afghanistan against the Taliban, Al Quada and ISIS. While these tribes military might may not be very impressive, their information and intellience on the Taliban, Al Quade and ISIS I have to be believe is invaluable in fighting those three groups.

So the dilemma is if we back away from the Afghanis, did we just give those three groups a giant gift allowing them to operate under our noses like roaches and plan another 9-11 type attack on the US? Or, we stay with the Afghanis and know child molestation and enslavement is occurring under our watch?

I will say again, if I were a soldier and walked in on one of them raping a child, he would be dismembered in a way that would prevent it from ever happening again.

I think we did this in 2008 and again in 2012...

Well go no further than what the US Military has become and allows/disallows.

I expect nothing more than that from the leaders, but I feel sorry for the troops who know better and have morals.

I believe during Vietnam the US knew full well the South Vietnamese were conducting atrocities in order to gain information about the North Vietnamese and the US took the position the North is doing the same thing and if we don't get similar information, the war is lost and Communism spreads.

The Afghan police don't even go after the taliban. They just chilled in their post until they a patrol day with us. What irritated me was that they were trying to arrest people that they just didn't like or get along with. An interesting talk I had with an ANA soldier was that he simply didn't care. I brought the sexual abuse up with the police and he said something along the lines of how that my country as a whole had no moral superiority to stand on citing the unit we replaced killed inocent people and made false claims that they were under attack. He also talked about drone strikes, etc. Either way it angered me and I just decided to walk away. It also angered me to no end that this spread out through the rest of country.

You cannot fit a square peg in a round hole unless you do some cutting.

Tribalism is the reason that area is like it is, as well as Africa.

From what I have read today, this "practice" is frowned upon and it's not out in the open. They dress up the boys to be a little feminine, the ones who do this are using it as a way to get around the Quran.

Should we get involved? If a soldier sees a kid, or even an adult, tied up or screaming? Yes.
