Combining Counties

Featured Replies

Combine Daviess and Hancock

Breckinridge/Ohio/Grayson Co

Or it could be Grayson Co/Edmonson Hart

Then put Breckinridge/Ohio/Hancock, but that's still a small population.

Or you could do Grayson with Hardin/Breckinridge/Meade AND Hart

Combine Hancock & Ohio with Daviess.

I don't know...maybe just get rid of the current county lines on a map and start drawing.

I'll start making the combos now with areas I know. You guys feel free to add, and also tell your local people why their job is irrelevant and unnecessary, and an albatross on your county's finances.

Nelson/Marion/Washington counties

Franklin/Anderson/Shelby/Spencer

Bullitt/Hardin/Meade

Oldham/Henry/Trimble

Gallatin/Carroll/Owen/Grant

I just knocked out 12 unnecessary counties. Again, feel free to add.

I'll go ahead and give you a bonus: Boone/Kenton/Campbell — let's hear the NoKy folks — especially the hardcore GOP/efficient government types — explain why this is a bad idea.

Where you got LaRue going in all of this? One of these two seems natural. Or the LaRue/Hart/Green/Taylor combo?

What would be the geographic limits to combining counties? With all the things that require visiting the county offices how far would you limit the distance? Is population even important anymore?

Northern Kentucky County, Louisville County and the rest of the state county. That should about do it.

You're actually on to something there. How about:

Campbell-Kenton-Boone-Pendleton-Grant-Gallatin

Oldham-Jefferson-Bullit-Nelson-Spencer-Shelby

Bourbon-Scott-Franklin-Woodford-Fayette-Anderson

The areas around the big population centers have the road system in place to make travel to county offices fairly easy.

For the record the combination of all 3 counties would be much worse for the Democrat party in NKY.

I think it's something to look into , I'm all for cutting government waste and spending. I do think there are much smaller counties we need to worry about first , I wouldn't start with 3 of the larger counties in the state.

But again if we are talking cutting government spending I'm in.

You're complicating things too much. Let's just be smart and efficient about this and make a Jackson Purchase County out of those 8. No reason for there to be 8 counties there.

No way. I'm all for combining counties, but that would be too much. Remember we have an aging population and some very rural back country roads in those areas. It would be too much to ask to have some people drive 75 miles or more to the county court house or clerks office.

Anderson and Mercer makes perfect sense. Franklin and Owen I think would make a good fit.

We all know it will never happen...at least probably not in our lifetime. And remember, there have been I believe over 80 new court houses and judicial centers built in the last 10 years or so. If someone could snap their fingers and combine counties today, that would be 100's of millions of dollars wasted because some of them would no longer be needed, depending on what county/city became the new county seat.

You could always have a satellite office staffed with one or two people.

This one works.
