September 19, 201511 yr Did the kid grab for the cops weapon? Stockton Police Department Joe Silva said: "If everyone would just learn to comply with the lawful orders from police officers and not try to hold or grab any of our weapons force would never have to be used It looked like he grabbed the baton at one point.
September 19, 201511 yr Why is it so hard for the youth of today to just do what the man with gun says.....it's really as simple as that.
September 29, 201511 yr First we don't have the entire story on video. We don't know if the kid was disrespectful. We also don't know if the officer is just be a jerk that day. What I have read so far is folks wanting a kid to just allow the cop to do what he wishes without knowing what occurred prior. The reason the youth today stand up to the police, is because we have so many Policemen that are not properly trained and they are cowards that hide behind a badge. But I like to think that is only 10% of the profession. I like to believe that the other 90% are true professionals. As for the youth of today, I agree not enough of them understand respect for authority.I blame parents and society. See my parents use to give me this thing weekly called a SPANKING. As I got older I understood what I needed to do to get less spankings. When I was in school the teachers handed out spankings and not time outs. The time out I got was the 30 seconds after the spanking that my parents said, "Stop Crying before I give you something to cry for." So because my teachers would spank me I understood quickly about authority. So how do we solve both issues? Both issues can be resolved with one word. Spanking!!!! When Policemen act unprofessional we should spank them, meaning punish by terminating them. There is no room in this word for bad policemen. As for kids, Parents spank them. Stop giving timeouts. Stop telling people kids need to be understood. I spanked my 11 year old daughter this past weekend for raising her voice to her mom. I didn't explain to her why, I jerked her up and spanked her bottom. Then afterwards I told her that the next time she raised her voice to her mother she would get one with her pants down. So what I am really saying? I am saying everyone should be held accountable for their actions. But first don't over react until we have the full story.

If there were 80,000 bad cops out there you would be seeing horrific encounters not every once in a while like now but several times each and every day. As far as poorly trained, what is your basis for that beyond the fact that some officers make poor decisions? Name one profession where properly trained individuals make the correct decision 100% of the time. Our Doctors, Nurses and other health professionals are more highly trained than any other profession, yet nearly 200,000 deaths per year are attributed to poor decisions or poor execution of their training. All Certified Law Enforcement Officers in Kentucky go through approximately 6 months of academy training, before in the Field Training with a Field Training Officer from their respective Department which can last from a month to several months. For reference we sent Marines to fight in WWII with 4 weeks of training. Are there some "Cowards behind a Badge" as you say, on power trips...yes it is unavoidable and most work themselves out of a job pretty quickly. But there are also Cowards behind Desk, Coaches Whistles, Clipboards, Velvet Ropes and any where else you go in life.
September 29, 201511 yr There are enough real cases of bad police work / brutality. Based on the video, this isn't one IMO and hurts the greater cause if you put this one up as a brutality case.
September 29, 201511 yr Let's say that 2% of all officers are bad/racist/antagonizing/etc. And I don't think the percentage is anywhere close to that high. That means there is a 49 out of 50 chance that a good cop is doing the civic job he is sworn to do. Maybe people should follow their instructions first and then file a civil lawsuit if they think they have genuinely been wronged. Just a thought.

I don't care what professions you are in there is about 7-10% that are not true professionals that shouldn't be doing the job. It is unfortunate that they get the attention and the other 90% catch grief. There isn't a decision that is going to be right 100% of the time, but the wrong decision is life changing even if it is just arresting someone. Being a police officer is hard work and under appreciated. There number one job is to come home alive. Second one is to protect and up hold the laws equally. That doesn't happen enough.

No way it's 1 out of 10 even in my former line of work it was less than 1 out of 40 maybe 50 managers that weren't professional. Law Enforcement is a very low percent IMO compared to most other careers that I've come in contact with. Let's say that it's as high as 5% (which it's not) of LEO'S that act in a poor manner. What percentage of the people they are dealing with are in contact with the police because of their own poor decisions or bad actions?

Whatever percentage it is, his point, as well as your, are correct. There is a much smaller percentage who are unprofessional than professional, and that much smaller number makes the overwhelming number of professionals look bad, in any profession.
