When it comes to the big 6A guys in Louisville, particularly Male and Trinity who are both regularly trying to compete on the national level as of late, it's not necessarily in their best interest to go about scheduling a 2A team like DeSales.

 

DeSales and Central have played one another as recently as 2012.

 

CAL played Male the last 4 years?

If the battle is won in the trenches and McCracken man handled MF upfront and still needed an OT to put them away, Idk how much different these teams are.

All this is all good, and fun. But the only thing that needs to be said at this time, is....

 

IF!!!!!!! I know another team in western ky, who didn't live up to the hype the last cpl of years. Hope it's not either of these 2 teams. I really want to see a DeSales vs Mayfield semi. Both healthy, and hitting on all cylinders. Let's get this rivalry started in Nov.

Mayfield should be behind them till they lose! They will meet in the playoffs!

Desales doesn't understand what they are getting themselves into. War Memorial in November will be extremely hostile.......

Desales will struggle with Mayfield's speed. Mayfield's offense will expose this.

 

That's a possibility. However, Ballard has speed, and Fern Creek has speed. If we come away with a win Friday I will feel much better about being able to neutralize MF's speed.

DeSales fans take hope. The last 2 times Mayfield lost in the finals they talked about how nobody could match up to their blazing speed and quickness and how the other program just didn't understand what was coming. In those 2 game teams with well coached, physical, and fast in their own right teams played sound defense and took it to the cards in the trenches.

The schedules are made on a two-year basis from what I understand. DeSales and Central played until 2012. Then DeSales added St. X. The game was agreed to by both sides. Unfortunately, a new school (Thomas Nelson) was established in 2-A and added to DeSales' district, forcing another mandatory game. The two-year series with St. X was canceled. Now they have beefed up the schedule, losing district games against Thomas Nelson, Ft Knox and Bardstown because they all moved to different classes, while adding Butler (6A), Ballard(6A) and Fern Creek(5A). JV and Freshman added X and Trinity last year. JV (this year's varsity) beat X in last year's JV game at St X 19-13.

2-A (particularly our district other than CAL) was terrible. Several games both years were no contest at all. However, they were district games so nothing we could do. Our district went from 7 teams down to 4, so we added two 6-A schools and a 5-A in those gaps. We also play a good North Hardin team (5-A or 6-A?). However, we also defeated John Hardin in 2013, whose only loss was to Bowling Green, and a pretty solid 5-A Warren Central team in 2013 and 2014. This year, however, there can be no questioning the strength of schedule. We still have two easy district games, but the rest is CAL and 5-A or 6-A schools.

I have said before that I don't know anything about Mayfield football, but here is someone who does. This has nothing at all to do with this season, but we have played Murray two years in a row. We traveled four hours to get there in 2013, and heard a lot of this same type of conversation. I actually bought into it until the game started. Murray's coach said the following in the local newspaper in 2013 after we traveled there and thrashed them 38-0. This is the only time I have seen Desales and Mayfield compared by a coach whose team played both in the same season. “Even though the Tigers faced a gauntlet of talented western Kentucky teams in the likes of Mayfield, Graves County, Madisonville-North Hopkins and district foe Caldwell County – twice – Duncan said there’s no doubt who the best team Murray High faced all year was following Friday night’s loss. ‘There’s no question that’s the best team we played. Even the games we lost, we were in them in the third and fourth quarter. That was a great football team we lost to.'" (Murray Ledger & Times, 11/30/13) Just sayin'......

Well I like this, the Colt faithful are feeling froggy, this will make their reeducation that much more fun. There is a new sheriff in town named Mayfield. Winner of 4 of the last state titles.

My biggest concern is CAL, they will be after us. But then, IF the Colts meet Mayfield, I believe we would play the day after Thanksgiving. That would be a LONG drive for us the morning after stuffing ourselves with goodies. And, I'm NOT feeling froggy Toothpick. But Idontknow's "Welcome to the big leagues" comment did get under my skin a little bit.....lol.
