September 15, 201511 yr The only guys that get me interested are the holier-than-thou types like Ortiz, Braun, Clemens. 'How dare you question me? I've never tested positive.' Blah blah blah. Based on what I laid out in this thread it's clear the testing isn't working like MLB claims. Braun took it right in the chops deservedly so. That guy should get boos the rest of his life. Ortiz has just been smarter than Manny. And maybe luckier too. Speaking of Manny, I wish he was still playing. My favorite RH swing of all time. Love watching that guy hit.
September 15, 201511 yr IF you say Ortiz should go into the HOF you are saying Bonds, A-Rod, Clemens, Palmeiro, etc should go in.
September 15, 201511 yr IF you say Ortiz should go into the HOF you are saying Bonds, A-Rod, Clemens, Palmeiro, etc should go in. Until you prove that every guy in the HOF was clean their entire careers, you can't keep those guys out because of it. JMO.
September 15, 201511 yr Until you prove that every guy in the HOF was clean their entire careers, you can't keep those guys out because of it. JMO. That is the challenge.
September 15, 201511 yr Until you prove that every guy in the HOF was clean their entire careers, you can't keep those guys out because of it. JMO. But isn't it happening now?
September 15, 201511 yr IF you say Ortiz should go into the HOF you are saying Bonds, A-Rod, Clemens, Palmeiro, etc should go in. I believe all of the above should most definitely be in.
September 15, 201511 yr IF you say Ortiz should go into the HOF you are saying Bonds, A-Rod, Clemens, Palmeiro, etc should go in. So what, you have an entire era of baseball that was juiced up. Either no one from the era gets in, or let them all in, MLB allowed it to happen, is what it is.
September 16, 201511 yr Tell that to A-rod, Braun, Melky, etc. Did A-Rod fail a test? I didn't think he did? I guess as as long as we are asking I have Lance Armstrong on line 1.
September 16, 201511 yr He hasn't ramped up. Except for an injury plagued season in 2012 he's been around 30-35 homers every season since 2009. He had 3 years of 40+ homers right when he was in his hitting prime. If he is juicing he must be the smartest guy alive given that he is under extra scrutiny since those 2003 names were leaked. Yet he's not failed a single test. He sure doesn't look the part either. For me it's the fact he's been able to maintain the same high numbers in his late 30s that gives me pause. Im not saying he's juicing but you definitely have to wonder.
September 16, 201511 yr I find it a bit ironic that AJG has gone to great lengths on here in the past to make the case that Ken Griffey Jr. was a user, but is so staunch in his defense of a guy that was actually caught with a positive test. And FWIW, I don't care if he did or didn't use. But If I had to bet, I'd wager a huge sum of money that Papi was on something at some point.
September 16, 201511 yr Age 37 - 30 HRS Age 38 - 35 HRS Age 39 - 34 HRS with 18 games left, 19 if they make up the postponed game from earlier in the year. How many players have put up those kind of numbers at his age? Maybe a bunch maybe none, but I'd have to think it is a small list.
September 17, 201511 yr Wouldn't it be great if no one ever took uppers in the 70's and no one ever took roids in the 90's!! Maybe we'd actually know who was really great!! One thing is for sure- baseball knew this was happening and let it go. Simply put, Ortiz has found a way around the system. You do not maintain or get better after the age of 34. I remember Cowherd saying something on his show a few years back about players traveling to Mexico to get "treatments". I realize that's speculation but Papi was the one he was mostly talking about.
